Today, most highway and road construction is a provincial responsibility. Provinces decide on the design, construction, safety standards and financing of highways under their jurisdiction. The Government of Canada, however, is solely responsible for the maintenance and repair of the Trans-Canada Highway inside national parks

In any case, sure hope they get a better solution than an alternating single lane, that would be a disaster.

Interesting. I didn't know that.
So does the Government of Canada have a separate contract for the Park(s)? Does the Government of Canada hire the provincial contractor to continue on through the park for snow removal?

Different contractors. When i leave canmore on hiway 1 the road is taken care of by volker stevin. When you hit the park gates at banff the road usually goes to ****e because of budget and less plows and it is cleared by parks Canada

First priority is to feed the elk, second is the rams, third is to clear the road.

The trans Canada hi way is a national disgrace. Between the mess and single lane narrow roads in the maritimes to the narrow crappy two lane stuff in the Rockies that are prone to rock/snow slides, it's a wonder any reliable commerce gets done using it.
Look at the quality and size of the roads in the U.S. that cross the mountains. Huge difference!!

I'm from the island so don't get out there much but it's not far from were the road gets really narrow and twisty goin up and down just before golden, its on the left side with swampy area to the right, looks like there goin to soften the corner and 4 lane it.
That seems to be a hotspot. We got held up for 3 hours on our way back from Revy due to a rock slide at that location. Luckily it was only 3 hours....

Thats comparing apples to oranges IMO, its like trying to compare our military to theirs. The US has way better funding and have the drive to make improvements.
