Check this out^
That article and the changes to Yellowstone is so opposite to the what you would expect, I had to check to see if it was satire. While it doesn't mention caribou specifically, this is a huge argument in favor of motorized backcountry users.

Here is a map view of the closures. Not sure how accurate but I’d say pretty close.

Can't see it happening.
Check out the job postings for BRP; 350+ positions worldwide, 175+ in Quebec alone. The vast majority are for electrical engineers, project managers, battery engineers, control systems engineers, etc.
While I don't think we will see electric sleds taking over right away, when the largest manufacturer is investing heavily in electrification, it is a pretty clear picture of the direction they are headed.

I was referring to the part about shredding in Jasper.

That was a lighthearted comment. I believe electric vehicles should be allowed anywhere. But that’ll never happen. Highway 93 parkways has some of the best ditch banding in the world. But we can’t ride it. E sleds will have rules too :(

As far as I know I can’t even ride my downhill e bike in the parks

I would agree with you on that point. They used to ban paragliding, but allow that now in JNP. Perhaps with the success of the snowmobile tours in Yellowstone and the release of the their study, it may open the door. I don't think we will ever see public 'freeriding' in the park, but organized tours on electric sleds could be possible.

It's really too bad that manufacturers won't help out the snowmobiling community more on these issues. Couldn't they allocate $50 or $100 from every $25k sled purchase towards maintain access to riding areas, or even just as straight up donations to the clubs? Would seem like a solid business decision, won't sell any mountain sleds if there are no mountains to sled in...

I think in the grand scheme of things, sales in the affected areas are a drop in the bucket. They can't make them fast enough, profits are up so why give a chit.
Them seem to be supportive of conservation anyway. https://www.brp.com/en/sustainability/responsible-riders-program.html

I don’t think e sleds would be allowed read that it’s not the noise that is the problem but the tracks that they leave making it easier for the predators to catch them we will never understand government reasoning

Having attended that meeting with the regional board , what can you say . The government saying that 85 percent of high elevation caribou habitat is being protected but 72 percent of mtn riding opportunities are still intact in the south peace .the numbers cannot exist in the same conversation . The government has gotten their way . In the beginning when we started the CCCR group ,we had received a DRAFT caribou plan that was being discussed between FNs , 3 levels of government and some of the regional and municipal representatives. It was supposed to be a draft plan , not policy. Kind of given to us under the table by a municipal rep who didn’t know what the mapping or documents meant. Lesson learned the hard way is if it’s DRAFT plan that is the direction they are going , even though the government assures the participants that there will be consultation and engagement with the user groups . The government is not obligated to consider any of the recommendations made by the snowmobile clubs or any other users of the backcountry through the the engagement or consultation process. I personally spent the better part of 3 riding seasons attending meetings with the clubs ,bcsf and the signatories involved from the fns and the feds and the province. Bottom line is we as recreational users of the mtns in the south peace have been made a scapegoat for the government. Sigh ..

Something for other clubs to think about before discussing options with the government.
Thanks for the info.

Yes sad but true ! If it’s a DRAFT from the government it’s that or more then they outline .
They are just giving lip service to parties involved other then FIRST NATIONS as they have already had closed door meetings with that group .
