I've lived in McBride all my life, and I'm awed at the support and amazing perseverance shown by all. This is a great story and I hope it has a great ending!!

Update!!!!! Phenomenal, phenomenal, phenomenal.....that is the word I think I used the most up the hill today-other than "friggin goggles.." So the trail is finished!!! And it wasn't really until I saw this trench up close that I appreciated just how much phenomenal work had gone into this.
The horses made it out in a flash down the trail and after a bit of a rest on the groomed trail they began to make their way down with three handlers. The path was amazing, some areas more hard packed than others, but they did great coming out. There's a real sense that these two horses know the're onto better things...
The hope is to get these guys out tonight, but time will tell and the people with them now are super-knowledgeable horse people who will I believe make the right decisions (ie. stopping to rest, trailering)

Thanks again to everyone for their support on this, and just the biggest of thanks to those folks working all week to get this done. When the going gets tough, the tough get going has never applied to a more deserving and hard working group!

AWESOME, PHENOMENAL WORK!!

I have a totally new respect for snowmobilers. Yes, you are noisy, but you are tough and dedicated to an important cause.

Your moral ethics are beyond reproach!.

The vet will guide you on this, but people use Mane,Tail and Groom (MTG) for the rain rot that the mare has or BETADINE (anti-bacterial scrub.)

Rain rot, being a bacteria, has bacterial AND fungal characteristics. It's important to keep the horse clean. Keep the infected area DRY and exposed to the air.

THAT'S AWESOME NEWS!!! I will be so relieved when I hear that the horses have made it out of the groomed trail....where a trailer will be waiting for them and they can go to their new home. It will be such a wonderful ending for this story!!

KUDOS to all who were involved!
Many people I know, heard of this story, almost everyone I talked to in the last few days. It is amazing how hard determination and human will can make groups of people come together in these times.
Congratulations!!You all deserve a pat on the back!

You bet, a "lead injection", (to the owner) if it were up to me, AFTER two months without food and water and shelter. I don't care what his excuse was, unless he had died on the way down from the mountain. Congrats. to the sledders that first spotted these two horses. They could have turned their backs. No one with any moral ethic can turn their back once they have seen something that they KNOW they can do something about. Awsome work McBride!!!

I have been following the thread and just wanted you all to know how fantastic you all are for going the distance for these horses. The amazing sacrifices so many of you made to dig them out , the doantions and offers to help. You all as a whole should be so very proud to help two beautiful animals who would of died a very painful death without you. BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think jsut about everyone in B.C. Rescue has been following the thread. About 1200 Members. Blessing to all and a very Merry Christmas !!!!!!!!

Great News, been following this thread from the start, amazed that the coverage this story got and how it brought so many helping hands and thoughts together. For all those that spent time on the mountain to organizers and donators this is for you and have a Merry Christmas.

How much farther do they have to go to get all the way out?

Truly Amazing!! Congratulations to all the volunteers who have worked so hard to keep these horses alive. I have been following the story this past week and I am so impressed with the people of the valley, how you have come together to help these horses that some so called animal lover left to fend for themselves.

Our group has been sledding in the McBride area for many years and I have often felt this caring and support in the locals we have met over the years.

Kudos to you all!

Merry Christmas!!

It's 27Km or about 18 miles to the trailhead

McBride BC, you may soon be known as the horse rescue capital of North America!!

What you all have done to get these poor horses out is really, truly, beyond words.

Thank-you...so much!

Warm stalls and beds for everyone soon! And a few:beer::beer::beer: :)
