I just checked out the pictures that sara has posted under her public profile and i must say that the horses look in alot better shape in the pic's than i expected.. I wish that i was able to go out and give help digging because there is alot of diggin to be done, but the shop is so busy i'm not able to get away.. But we'll do what we can from here.. Also i'd like to THANK sara for posting the pics.. All of us at Spindrift are thinking of you guys up there workin everyday to help these horses even though it'd be easier just to say you know what it's to cold today, but you dont thank you guys!!! The more i get to know the people and this little town that me and quadster moved to only a short 2.5 months ago the more i am absolutely certain we made the right choice and am so glad to be here.. The people here are some the NICEST and KINDEST people i've ever met..

I commend all the efforts from all the people up in Mcbride and also all the Snow & Mudders giving their support... I am also Highly in support of saving the horses. I do know horses quite well as I have plenty here on the farm. But to me the trench looks quite narrow for the horses. (I wish I could come up and help dig) With my experiences with horses, in situations that they are new too and feel trapped or confined (like in the trench on the way out) they might panic and go skitso.. and might hurt themselves or the people that are walking them out. I am just hoping and praying for everyone involved to be careful and safe for the betterment of themselves and the horses..

That's where i have a problem. you threw helping animals and people in the same sentence. The way i see it is you shoot the animals and take the money saved to help people. I guess thanks to PETA and others who put animals on the same level as humans, I am kind of indifferent when it comes to animals.

PS i am not saying that you put humans and animals on the same level.

Just a quick update! SPCA will be in contact with me tonight after I get the run-down from Matt. There are developments with helicopters and the like, and we'll see what tomorrow brings.

Also thanks alot for the donations, I know its Christmas and all if you can even spare $10 that would help. You don't have to be a paypal member either. Please go to the left side on the main page and you will see the donate tab. This money will be sent out on Tuesday to Barry (bbtoys) and he will give to the people involved. This will help offset the costs of this rescue and any remaining funds will be given to the SPCA as they are involved as well.

Hey, I was up there a few days ago digging these critters out and all is good! Today we will be digging from below the cabin on the trail and working our way up to connect with the upper diggers. Sleds will be going up with hay and supplies, please lets watch out for each other, and if you need to warm up and the cabin is full, come on over and lets dig, any help will be appreciated.

I pledged some money to help out with the rescue.

If the horses aren't out by after Christmas, I might be able to come up and help out. How long do you all estimate this will take? How many k's of digging are we looking at?

Learn something before you start adding your thoughts. SP has open books - why don't you look into it. I went to Peru with Samaritan's Purse last year to volunteer with earthquake clean up. I fully paid my way as SP's mandate is to give as much as possible to the people in need. We handed out their Operation Christmas Chld shoeboxes to impoverished kids. Set up food programs for people that had lost everything and I can tell you from first hand witness - SP ensures that your dollar donated gets to the needy.

Hey Darren - Merry Christmas. did not mean to bark back with my post but SP is one of the good guys when it comes to dollar donated goes the whole way to the people who need.

Im geusing once you get them out you would have to lead them down the trail and put them in a trailer, once you get to the parking lot. And once there down there give them a shelter and fill them full of good feed.but ill be up there just after boxing day.

So........maybe a dumb question, but why not just pack a trail with sleds rather than shovel? Seems like a lot less work.

Lot of pounds per square inch on a horse's hoof. They would break through too easily I would think.
