in layman's terms, what does it say in the second paragraph about heating over 275 degrees? changing the ductile strength etc....

I'll have to find my metaurgical books and read into this when I have time, its not like if you heat it to 275 and bam its instantiously weak, there's certain temp ranges and you have to hold it at that range for a perdetermined times to change the structure. Like I said I've coated alot of aluminum and never had an issue. Maybe they overheated the rails, maybe it was a bad batch of aluminum with alot of inclusions, way too many variables to assume. PLus I thought Iceage rails were anodized not coated?

i had them coated at impact coatings. but ice age will coat whatever color you want. but they typically come annodized. i would assume all powder coating processes are the same regardless of what shop it is done at?

impact coatings edmonton did the work as they do for most of the custom shops and alot of sledders. i would be shocked if ice age denied warranty to me because of the coating. but every manufacturer is going to look for a way out its business. however issues like this surface on sites like this and it can give a bad image pretty quick. that being said.....im not saying good or bad until monday when i talk to them. IF they help me out i will get another set and i WILL have them coated again. if not..well...we will see.

i cant even imagine the amount of coated rails running around out there with no issues. i have had TONS of sets done and no issues until yesterday.

Ok, here's a question no one has asked yet. How much weight did you gain over the summer? Just trying to cover all the bases. BTW, I'm over 330, and my stock rails have not bent yet.

Thats what I was getting at Maxwell, I dont think the coating or baking had much to do with it, I think its a manufacturing defect, so good luck with the warranty and hopefully they dont screw you around too bad because like you said word of mouth or word of bad mouth can get around quickly and can hurt buisness. I will ask my powder coater for bake temps and times and post my results.

Do let us know what happens, I personally do not think its the powder coating. I do think they will be happy to know if they have produced a bad batch of rails, and they can jump on damage control, and re-call, or what-ever

yup i agree. im not being a douche here either. if i bent them with my fawkup i would call them up and order a new set. me and the 3 others i rode with thought for hours of what it could be. coulnt think of anything. it was honestly a road ride. now i have 4 other sets installed that im nervous about. but they were a different batch. well let you know tommorow!

went for a ride yesterday..quick rip up the trail burned a few doughnuts because the conditions were not good aswell as the weather. then came back down. i will be the first to admit when i wreck something. but this has me puzzled. i didnt do any jumps. my sled never came off the ground. IM LOST! these are supposed to be the strongest rails on the market so hopefully iceage comes through with some warranty because i do alot of business with them. i went in the EXACT same spots as my cousin with 174 ice age rails and his are fine. i rode ALL last season on stock 163 rails and never bent them and i BAGGED on my sled.

After reading all responses and not seeing this .............

Maybe they are getting their extrusions from China and finishing them in USA. It sucks the way the bump stops are at the weakest part of the rail.

I could be wrong here but if I remember my schooling properly the way the material was cooled could have an adverse effect on it.

If they pulled it from the oven and quenched in water ( I doubt they did this) then it would create a brital material by freezing the micro scopic crystals in place. The rails would have cracked and not bent if they did this.

If the took the rails out of the oven and let them cool at room temp the crytals would slowly go back to their normal positions creating a strong flexible rail.

If they turned the oven off and went home for the night leaving the rails to cool very slowly they would be soft and deform easily.

Its all basic metalergy. Its the annealing process that can determine the caracteristics of the material.

I would have to look into it further to be sure though.
