buddies went to quartz days in april last year and a CO was there. he walked over to buddies and asked if the sleds were registered and insured. 1 guy said yes the other said no. CO said if you put that sled on the ground I'm going to write you a ticket.
so they left and went elsewhere.

word around golden is that next season expect enforcement at the main areas. but with only 2 CO's servicing the greater golden area, wot are the chances.
will cops be checking sleds too ???

I was reading a sled insurance policy last year and it basicly covered nothing I doo.

i have meet one of those CO's many times in weird areas at weird times. I know one day he was rolling up and down bush checking sleds, another day he had a check stop just after Susan lake. The one I encountered was pretty good though.

The cost was $48 .. and the option to buy liability from ICBC for another $48 ($200,000 liability) .. this is a few bucks cheaper than the $70 Capri liability.......

You get what you pay for........age old saying!

The Capri liability is $1,000,000 and costs $70.00. Something not a lot of people know, is that out of the $70.00, Capri donates $11.00 to the BCSF. This is the $70.00 liability offered when you buy the BCSF membership.

You have insurance for club work parties and club functions if the protocols have been followed. If you are riding for pleasure, you have no liability insurance with your membership.
I.C

But a guy can get insurance through Capri and club for 70 bucks then

I still have mine insured through cooperators in Alberta for all perils

I'm sure I can keep it that way..

They said no problem

Who am I to say? Address, principle residence, ICBC's office thoughts, a lot of variables Geoff........:d

So I assume you brought the sled in as "settler's effects"? How does the tax apply to the registration? So many questions and no real, honest answers. Like I said above, don't be in a rush to run out and register! It won't cost anymore money to wait out the year......:d

so I was in at seld shop and the word is, not even the ladies at the insurance shops know wot to tell people, other than government cash grab ...

they can't tell us anything as they have no substantial facts to work from ... why does this not surprise us ???

again I asked about my trikes, and if one had built a off road buggy. all off road machines need to be registered if used on fsr or public land. well thats great and all but now we need insurance and proof of ownership.

most guys I know both here and in sask don't even know who techniquely ownes the machine unless bought new.

will we be hearing "its at the disgression of the officer at the time" like so many other government departments currently say ...

That ICBC $48 liability only covers you for crossing public roads. It doesn't cover you on FSR's or off road. The insurance agent should have explained that to you. The $70 Capri insurance covers you for everything but crossing public roads.

What a lovely system!

I find it amazing how much folks complain about "new costs" for us to have our fun, the "cash cow" or "cash grab" is the most common. The strange thing is that it is these people that are the first to complain and complain the most when they do in fact need help from the Police or CO's. You have 20K invested in a sled but an extra $38 is gonna break the bank? I've always hoped they'd come up with such registration, there's no better way to track your machine should it be stolen and no, you won't necessarily get it back but its another tool to help Officers out in their crappy jobs when dealing with whiner's! Join BCWF, your liability is covered....Sherm

It's the tax I now have to pay for both my sleds... Paid the gst on my new one

Bought a sled privately in Alberta when we lived there till last Nov

Tell me how that's fair that I have to pay 12% for something I bought 4 years ago and was still in Alberta 3 years prior

I'm not going to pay the 12%.... Just crooked

wow really ?? that is horrible !

why wouldn't icbc cover you on FSRs ... they cover your vehicle on FSRs.

also if you want more than 200,000, you can get 2 mil from icbc for $59.. still cheaper than capri

not saying i'd rather give money to icbc over capri, as the matter of fact all insurance companies are scum and I'd rather not give anything to any of them

AND... That sled has already had the GST paid on it when it was new. I don't care how you look at it, THAT part screams cash grab.

So for the Albertans that don't register their sleds in Alberta because they doo all their riding in BC do they now need to register in Alberta or can they register in BC and not pay the %12.
