had some guys in the shop today who said she is the opposite of stable up there... haha. Trail had been burried in several places and many of the big avy paths had slid already with some not down yet.
CAA just issued a special avalanche bulletin this morning. Might not be a good weekend for Gorman. See what this storm cycle brings and maybe it will be off the hook by next weekend!!!

Anything higher than moderate rating in Gorman and you are playing a big percentage of things not going in your favour and even at that it can be highly variable in there. With the avy conditions the way they have been and more snow forecast, sledders are nuts to be entering Gorman right now but there will be idiots up there next weekend riding over avy debris to hit the hill. Use your hedas folks, Gorman is rated Extreme for a reason. Big Big consequences in there with high avy ratings. Just trying to help other sledders understand the risks of this area.

Here is a pic from 2009, this pic was taken from far away and does not do the size of this avy justice. Avy conditions were moderate but with the sun that day they probably were "high" in the upper bowls where it hits earlier in the day. Just doing a short Sunday morning ride before heading back early to Cowtown. We rode into Lang, dug a snow pit and came up with similar conditions to what is out there now, a PWL buried down deeper and then some smaller ones below it. We were packing up after early lunch, it was around 11 am. A big natural slide came down in the upper bowl as we were filling our pit back in, we dropped the hammers and headed for the truck at WFO. The crown is easily 1 m high and you can see where it stepped down to the lower layer just below the crown. Guys were still highmarking below this area even after this slide ripped out and we heard the whole south face of the lake cut loose later in the day. South facing aspect, similar conditions to this year, same time of year, after a big snow load. Gorman is highly variable with slope angles and aspects, and not a lot of traction to hold the snow to those high wind loaded slopes. Use extreme caution.

Ditto. Big consequences in there...avys can run big and there's lots of dips and funnels to fill in at the bottoms of many slopes too. Not alot of 'safe' areas to ride unless you stay down at the bottom in the trees.
That pic shows an area that peeps always have to highmark and sidehill too...regardless of conditions it just has to get ridden by someone
Don't hear of too many 'sloughs' in Gorman...they are usually big fuggers when they come.

Sweet pic! I know of a few incidents in that bowl on the way to East Quartz.

Well with some knowledge you will realize how big that avy is by the size of the trees and sled tracks at the bottom of the pic. And that is a NICE pic. but YES your right... stay out of there this week for sure

Gorman was awesome Sunday. Blue skies and fresh deep powder everywhere. Just a few minor sloughs to be seen. About twenty trucks in the parking lot. People were staying off the big slopes for the most part.

Here is a vid, a little long and not eddited snow was even better down low:

nice snow, lol ever have a warrenty claim on your cat??

wide open for about 5 min straight...

If it can't put up with that I don't want it. 1800 miles now and compression hasn't dropped a bit ( I check after every trip). I did explode a belt in Revy last year on a similar day but spent half the day yesterday WFO and no problems. However, a few weeks ago I did crack the spider in my primary and had to replace the whole clutch. This is definitely a Cat weak point.

Thats an understatement. People have died in there and people have lived after being buried. The common denominator is ................it slides often in there.

Here is another picture from Gorman, a frequently traveled area. Golden snowmobile Club is where this pic came from

Right at the end of the lake where everyone rides, pretty big slide, super long path. Another example of what Gorman is serious terrain.

Thanks for the pic

The north side of the lake is messed up cause the north lake slope gave. Pretty big.

Good to see most the big stuff has let go
