its a rimfire. there are two options availible right now for ammo. 20g (3000 fps) box of 50 for $15.99 or 25g (2600 fps) for $16.99 they both have bullistic tips.
i posted a couple pics in the "cool guns thread" showing the holes this new caliber blows through the steel rimfire target that I have been shooting with the .17 HMR, 22 WMR and 22 LR for the last 10 years and only ever chipped the paint lol

Bulk .223 ammo is far from accurate at longer ranges in my opinion. .204 is cheap to reload. Is that .17 SM a Center fire cartridge? That must be spendy to shoot.

This new .17 Super Magnum is moving at 3000fps with a ballistic tipped 20g bullet so its night and day compared to the .17 HMR I'll post a vid as soon as I get a bead on the little critters.

I was focused on the HMR rim fire for some reason.

Ohhhh isn't that interesting, is it a different casing than the .17 HMR? Or same casing just hopped up a bunch? Would give me an excuse to buy another varmit rifle.

And yes the cheap .223 ammo doesn't group all that well, was trying to sight in a Mossberg MVP last weekend with it. Was kinda frustrating to be honest.

Always liked my .22 Mag and .17HMR for close quaters varmit shooting. But there nothing like hitting a muskrat of his hut and 30 yards with the 22-250😃😃

New casing. It's from a .27 caliber fastener cartridge

Ohhh that is good news. .17 centerfires are fun too. Well time to do some reasearch to see who's making a rifle for that caliber.

So far it's only availible in the Savage B Mag bolt action cheap $339 but should last or Volquartson (spelling?). In a semi auto $1850+

I will buy a semi as soon as Ruger or Remington introduce one

Went out this weekend to shoot gophers on the field we usually go to not a single gopher! My brother talked to the lady that owns the land and she figured that the guy that hays the land in the fall poisoned them. Where's the fun in that?!?

I heard there was a .22 round shortage. Any truth to this? Gopher season is coming closer and would hate to get caught ammoless.

.243 with 55 grain ballistic tip hand loads does a number on them. Close to 4,000 f.p.s. Quite safe as well because as soon as they touch anything they blow up! Makes a common cartridge dual purpose.

I bought a bucket of bullets the other day. They shoot good in my 10-22. Think I paid $65 or $70 for 1400rnds. No shortage of 22 rnds around my redneck area.
