Was at quartz yesterday. At least 6" in parking lot. Trail was brutal with water at creek crossings. Was not bad up to but lots of hazards still

Looking for some input on this area. I've rode it quite a bit over the years. But this year over the holidays my wife and son (7 years old) are going to be staying in Golden. Plan on taking them out for a couple scenic rides. Mainly just trails up for some views. My son will have his little Z120 along. Hoping to take him to an area where he can just putt around. Does anyone else do this? Or is there any areas you could recommend. Obviously nothing to crazy, just somewhere he can cruise along and have some fun.

bleaberry and Susan lake are good, but not groomed. could be too much for a 120cc?

Quartz would be good except I'd be worried about some yahoo running over my kid on the trail up.

it's a tuff one, I see some smaller kids on the hill. but I think mountain riding is better suited for teenages, jmo

good luck.

We rode Quartz yesterday. Nothing to write home about but a few good spots and one of the better early season rides in recent memory.

Trail was great until about 10-11k then it was completely whooped out and a few creek crossings. Nothing worth staying home over though. Saw two kids on 120's at the cabin...if they made it you can too.

Coverage up top was decent but lots to watch out for as expected.

put the 120 on a skimmer and tow it to the quartz cabin. Then you can base out of there and not spend all day waiting on a sled that can only do 12mph on the trail. Would be a lot more fun of a day for your child.

Just my opinion but Gorman is the last place I would take a small kid to ride. Maybe the trail would be fine but after you come out of the trees just before the climb to get to the lake the danger level is through the roof. That clearing fills in nicely with massive slides from time to time and slides have come down onto the lake and busted through the ice over time. Not a great place for beginners.

Agreed, Gorman is not the place for a newbie. See so many "experienced" riders doing stupid **** it there every time I go in there. Used to tell peeps about the dumb, dangerous **** they do but these days everybody knows all as has been pointed out several times to me...just shake my head and move on to different area now. Not right I know but patience isn't what it used to be now that I am late in my 40s.

I know 2 guys that lost their lives riding that area. One I was at the slide and helped look. To many big slides come down in that riding area. I don't even ride there anymore. I've seen enough to last me a lifetime.

Ever seen the pic from 1986 where the north side of the lake slid and took the ice up the south side , sketchy chit

I've also seen 3/4 of the lake gone and the chit house Mia like 10 years ago, was there a Friday, didn't make it past the lake as was too deep, went back Saturday and it had slid

I love Gorman from my young, dumb climbing days

But not for a newbie to ride at all

Not necessarily. I remember being there at like 16 years old looking around thinking man if this stuff ever broke we'd be screwed never been back since. Still I'd love to go back and explore the pass over into quartz.
