Made the decision today to have a neighbour cut and bale our remaining canola. Yielding 3-4bu and not feasible for custom combining. What a hassle dealing with AFSC on this. They don’t recognize canola as a feedable crop so no concessions on a yield allowance because you are helping a cattle guy. That’s fine I guess but just trying to understand your options with an agent is painful at best. Was told to leave strips and could be a month or more before an adjuster is out they say. I wonder what those strips will
look like in mid November ? 🤔I have to believe it will play into my favor. AFSC needs a massive overhaul in my opinion. One hand doesn’t know what the other hand is doing.

Cutting and baling was cheaper? Was a custom guy going to charge you per acre on that?

AFSC is a joke…

Its original intent was to support the agriculture industry, but has evolved into a strictly insurance and lending institute with most employees that have little agricultural knowledge, experience, and empathy for small businesses.

There was a farmer who grew excellent quality corn. Every year he won the prize for growing the best corn.

One year, a reporter interviewed him and discovered something interesting about the way he grew corn.

The reporter discovered that the farmer shared his seeds with his neighbors. "Why do you share your best seeds with your neighbors, if every year they compete with your own?" the reporter asked him.

"Why, sir?" the farmer replied, "don’t you know? The wind picks up the pollen from the ripe corn and swirls it from one field to another. If my neighbors grow inferior corn, cross-pollination will constantly degrade the quality of my corn. If I want to grow good corn, I must help my neighbors grow good corn."

The same can be applied to our lives. If you want to live a happy, meaningful life, you must help enrich the lives of others.
