I am pretty optimistic about it. We may finally have some options as to how to sell our OWN grain. And maybe more flexibilty on when to haul it.

As long as farmers are price takers and not price makers no system will work. I have been on both sides of this topic bottom line if the board was run properly, making us farmers price makers, its purpose would be served. Unfortunately to much government involvement.

I live for the day when we as producers say the price is not right therefore no delivery!

Kinda sounds like those oil guys and raising prices when they want. Look at the current diesel prices, what a fawking joke!

I guess learning how to market your product will give the producer something to do in the off season.....Wouldn't think the independent producer would have much pull going up to a buyer on his own....Hope it works out for you guys.

As a buyer of grain getting rid of the board cant come soon enough. I would rather create valuable and amicable relationships with growers instead of some large corporation and people that dont even know the difference between one grain to another. A organic farmer who cant stand the board did some research and told me that wage costs for the board was $58 million a couple years ago between 350 employees. That is about $166,000 each and I am sure the avg clerk is not getting that kind of salary. Not sure how accurate this figure is but my gut tells me it is not far off.

I know in our family the board is/was hated. Every other buisness owner had the right to market their product. That is why we had a lot of canola contracts. Least you could make some money.
Remember when the guys protested and hauled their grain across the border at Coutts a number of years ago. Father of a friend of mine who was in his 70's at the time got tp spend a few days in jail for that. They should have jailed all the crooks running the wheat board!

Fuggin canidian farmers :D

We may as well lay off our employees and just go sledding all winter! Cattle are like cats right? Put them outside, leave some food and water out and they will be good to go for a week end? Put lots of feed out and they will survive all winter!

Stupid fawking people. You would think he would hire a neighbor to do it...probably cheaper than dealing with the animal loss

Cant happen fast enough in my opinion,it will encourge increased value added industry investment in the praries.I belive you will see almost instant expansion in grain handling facilities and fundamental changes in how the systems stores and handles product.
there will a steep learning curve required of producers to grow and market a consistent commodity, better be getting on the VRT (variable rate technology) train really quickly if your not so already.Consistent grade and protien levels will become crucial to meet forgien customer"s requirements
My largest concern lies with the railways and how they allot cars and move grain to export, they are the next roadblock to efficient grain trade in this country.

Who on here is using VR tech. And what are thoughts, who is doing your prescription mapping and costs, we are running around $12/ac for initial ec/nutrient testing then 9$ for prescription/ software ect... Just doing two quarters this year getting our feet wet with it..Bounce, really interested in hearing your thoughts.

WTF hasn’t the agro guy sold me yet! Cereal boost, canola boost, in-crop/post crop etc... But this one is really going to cost some money. Upgraded the combine this fall and have to upgrade the seeding system. Then, of course there are the pre-variable charges and the annual prescription charges. Like I told my agro guy I’ve been doing manual variable since we had our first air seeder; just turn the fertilizer clutch off in the sloughs. Then upgraded to the air drill and have three tanks and the middle tank has a double clutch for different rates. Now, fully automated variable and sectional control; next controlled traffic. Where does it stop, why do we have to spend so much to try and squeeze an extra bushel/acre or increase quality?

Can somebody work on increasing the price we get for our product? Maybe a grain cartel like the oil guys! That’s what the hopeless wheat board was supposed to do. Ten dollars a bushel for my wheat would solve a lot of problems. Like maybe giving the land a break, like we used to do.

Best line I have ever heard: Until we are price setters and not price takers.... I see better opportunities for us without the wheat board in the future but we will still be price takers from big business.

I digress, variable rate it is! Everything else the agro guy has sold has improved the bottom line.

Note: Because of this poor rail car allotment procedure I have one ticket available for the “Advanced Agronomy Conference” this week in Nisku. The conference is sold out. PM me if you can go and not hauling October contract canola.

We are all price takers of big business my friend, but i share your sentiment.

I belive the death of the board will create oppertunitys, but it will a make the best deal you can for your own product situation. the larger farm business's that produce a quality consistent product will have the advantage. thats where i belive VR will be crucial for a chance at that consistency in this unpredictable country.
I would be really interested in that conference, what day?
