For a factory sled the XM is pretty dam sweet, your average guy could pick one up from the dealer ride it all year and do nothing to it and have tons of fun.

There is definatly room for improvement tho.

First off suspension- you pay 13g for a sled and it has plastic bushings and cheap ass shocks? come on now.
And single shear mounts on the the upper arms? wtf..lol

Power- Good for a stocker,, but a good turbo setup will make it into a whole nother animal.

Clutching-Skidoo clutching is pretty good,, add more power obviously it will need more pin wieght. I wouldnt bother messing with the Ramps. Stiffer springs and a helix cut a bit different makes a noticable difference back shifting when getting on and off the throttle.(recovers RPM faster)

Needs a Skid plate, bracing and a few other goodies other than that they are a pretty good unit stock..

Dont care if its sleding, quading, dirt bikes, harleys what ever people just like to mod there rides to make it there own.. always bin that way always will be

kyb makes shocks for race cars i wouldnt say they are cheap shocks. they perform well for me and the guys with the freerides love the fully adjustable version.

they do have a cheap appearance. i bet if you threw some fancy billet knobs on them that didnt do anything guys would be all over them LOL

M series is 80s technology. You've got the new race team inspired sled your good to go

very important.

cat is going to have to come up with a sled that is mountain inspired not RACE inspired....afterall the race track is very similar to the mountains......NAAT...
So I got a good sled ,it's just not good for the mountains?

When I can rip down a wooped out trail for 5kms stop and cook an egg on the shock id say they are pretty much junk,,guess if you dont ride that hard you wouldnt have that problem

The kyb 40's are a good shock and should be on the X,,the kybs the xm comes with are cheap junk...

your shocks get hot? fawk you must be cooking lol. although i cant say that iver ever touched them as they seem to be working fine LOL.

keep in mind it is a mountain sled. ive tried sleds with really good racing shocks and ya they are unreal on the trail but they really hinder mountain handling charactaristics.

Yeah they get that hot,,when they get hot they dont perform,,thats called fade,,thats what that little piggy back dohicky on shocks do is preventing fade.... All I do is ride mountains and I ride alot... Race shocks work just fine for me in the steep and deep

Haha...I started a game with myself that every time you typed '16 wide' I would take a drink...Since then i've lost my house, wife, kid, sleds, boat, quad and Jeep and am now in AADAC!!!

Sorry to hear you can't handle your booze. But kidding aside I've always wondered why poo and cat wouldn't go to 16 wide. A larger footprint is always going to provide better floatation. And the excuse of a wider track makes it harder to carve with doesn't seem like a good enough argument cause there's tons of people carving with no problems on a doo.

You know what else makes shocks not preform very good? Bending them in half as you slam A tree at 90 because you thought your mountain sled was actually a short track trail racer.... And not infact a mountain sled. Just something I have found... Just me.

you dont have to be going 90.... 50or 60kms through good sized moguls and those shocks will be bottoming hard and over heating within a few miles, while your stock plastic bushings are getting pounded right out.. I only noticed because of the snow boiling off my shocks,, they get very very hot.

If they work good for you right on, maybe you only hit groomed trails? maybe you go 10kms/h threw the big woops so you dont fly off into the tuelys?

They dont work good for me tho,, so in my books they are a must do upgrade.

err what i meant to say is the XM is perfect!! if you change it in any way YOU are an IDIOT!! lol

Lol sorry to burst your bubble but other than a can the XM is ready to ride. I bash a new sled every season for 80 days and the XM is truly ready to ride.

No clutching changes to make
No burning belts
Gobs of power
Superior handling
Best fit and finish
Smooth suspension
Best traction ad flotation

Sorry but there's barely anyone modding the new XM it just doesn't need anything.

Pretty much everyone that owns a new poo or cat is either doing a track swap, running boards, par heads and pipe kits etc to try and make them mountain ready because they just flat out aren't.

Your buddy is right he shouldn't have to spend a dime on a mountain sled.

Edit. I apologize I did have to purchase scratchers.........

Except every xm I've ridden with I've killed up down and across.......... I'm not brand loyal and wont play that game, facts are facts...
