I was going to say my freeride is totally stock and I don't need anything for it but then started thinking about that. I did change the boards to get rid of the build up. Added mountain addiction jerry cans and bag. I still need to get scratchers on there. And I guess a muff pot. So no my stock sled doesn't work.

at the same time, is a Factory Truck, kept factory? or do people add running boards, sled decks, tie downs, tonneau covers, bed liners etc.

It's about getting the machines set to YOUR liking..... nothing straight out of the box is going to work for EVERYONE out there.

Thats all basically lipstick.... intake, exhaust, chips, things that mess with performance and your warranty would be considered not factory imho...

Maxwell, we all know that you are the most brand loyal next to LHF and his wedge so when ever you sprack off about how good the Doo's are compared to the other brands it makes me think that you are really compensating for something. I really (and i'm guessing others as well) have started to view most of your comments as usless info like ol' oneyewilly's posts. I have to say i love my new cat and it will go anywhere that your xm will go except get the highest mark on the hill and i have no problem admitting that it won't but i don't highmark so it doesn't bother me. All the brands have the crap that fails just like trucks and cars. sorry for the rant but open your mind a little man!!

LOL.....MAXWELL is the new WILLY!!! bahaha!!!

how will we know which is which.......willy 1 & willy 2???

I fixed some of your post as i don't think you are correct and brain washed at times. I am Ski Doo but this is how i see the new ones. The new 2013 Polaris is quite a sled for this year. Granted the fit and finish could use some work.

Lol sorry to burst your bubble but other than a can the XM is ready to ride. I bash a new sled every season for 80 days and the XM is truly ready to ride.

No clutching changes to make Are you serious ? They work okay but could use some work.
No burning belts
Gobs of power I don't know about gobs, but okay .
Superior handling To the Ski Doo crowd.
Best fit and finish Second best as Yamaha will take first.
Smooth suspension
Best traction ad flotation Good enough to dig deep holes and not stay on top of the snow. Polaris has the staying on top and not trenching.

Sorry but there's barely anyone modding the new XM it just doesn't need anything.

Pretty much everyone that owns a new poo or cat is either doing a track swap, running boards, par heads and pipe kits etc to try and make them mountain ready because they just flat out aren't.

Your buddy is right he shouldn't have to spend a dime on a mountain sled.

Edit. I apologize I did have to purchase scratchers.........

Hmmm I don't care how good your geometry is there is no 15 wide track going to stay on top of the snow better than a 16 wide. Yamaha doesn't have a 2 stroke mountain sled which is why I didn't mention it. 4 stroke yes tough to beat.

Lots of people say the skidoo clutching works ok but no one ever elaborates. PLEASE explain why it works just ok

The xm does look like a winner and the doo looks good to. Im not impresed by cat tho and im a cat guy i wanted to update my lil ol m7 but i think im guna wait until cat comes out with another winner. And the only reason im waiting to stay with cat is because my dealer cant be beat im not a brand loyal guy im a dealer loyal guy.

For a factory sled the XM is pretty dam sweet, your average guy could pick one up from the dealer ride it all year and do nothing to it and have tons of fun.

There is definatly room for improvement tho.

First off suspension- you pay 13g for a sled and it has plastic bushings and cheap ass shocks? come on now.
And single shear mounts on the the upper arms? wtf..lol

Power- Good for a stocker,, but a good turbo setup will make it into a whole nother animal.

Clutching-Skidoo clutching is pretty good,, add more power obviously it will need more pin wieght. I wouldnt bother messing with the Ramps. Stiffer springs and a helix cut a bit different makes a noticable difference back shifting when getting on and off the throttle.(recovers RPM faster)

Needs a Skid plate, bracing and a few other goodies other than that they are a pretty good unit stock..

Dont care if its sleding, quading, dirt bikes, harleys what ever people just like to mod there rides to make it there own.. always bin that way always will be

M series is 80s technology. You've got the new race team inspired sled your good to go

Now that i can agree with. I came off an 05 rev to an 09 M8 and i fell in love with the M chassis other than the suspension on the trail. It was the worst riding sled ever untill i got off trail and thats where it shined. I could weave around my buddy on his xp when he was fighting it in the trees. Now i have the new proclimb and man what a world of difference. it took no time to get used to and i was goin places pushing my comfort level and coming out with ease. I can't say it enough how much i love this sled. I also was riding with a guy on a 13 pro 163 and that sled really impressed me as well and its bone stock. I also remember whipping past stuck xm's a few times only to get stuck and get passed by the pro and then another xm would go whipping by. Its personal prefernce IMO and they all suck a$$ when yer getting towed out!
