The 1990's called and wanted their mod sleds back.....LOL or was it Blower Bob that called? haha. I don't think we were talking about heavy mods (unless clutching, suspension tweaks and running board mods are now considered heavy modding....well, I guess some people think adding a can is modding their sled so....), we're talking about cans, pipes, tracks, maybe some clutching.....If you've added a can to your sled or a seat to lose 10-15 lbs then it didn't come from the factory how you liked it.

it was funny to watch the stockers try and keep up with the light mods at Xmas time. In 4 days of riding I played with my boondocker box for a total of 3 mins at lunch one day and my sled still runs great and didn't need to be towed off the mountain? Sucks to be me I guess.

Signed: Not Stock Steve :D

You think just becuase you know way more than I do that you can bash all my statements into the ground?? Becuase if you do.... you're right!
I know what your saying, My sled I guess would be a light mod... 3" with some different driviers and a can..... Thats where mine will stay. You fall into a different category... You pretty much know everything about snowmobiles so ya... do whatever you want with your boondocker box... Im reffereing to the average amount of people... "oh crap my sled isnt running properly.....Im pretty sure its becuase my box needs this and that adjusted" and end up screwing around with it forever... Most of my experiences are with people putting a turbo on a two stroke....Or an extremly modded out super long track that never makes it off the hill without breaking....In MY experiences.... not just with my group but seeing them on the hill.... Turbo 2 stroke (cats and 800 Pteks) = garbage that isnt running right that gets towed out eventually.

I do recall a certain 860 big bore banana boat that did manage to run for one complete day last season. Out of about 60 that's not to bad. Lmfao!!!!!!

But your right. Nothing is more fun than bashin a new stock sled around all season and actually learning to ride. It's magical

Your right. 90% of the people who have fuel controller boxes couldn't set an alarm clock if there life depended on it. Thats why I don't have a fuel controller on my sled. Lmao!

I dont think the original poster is reffering to boost or big bores.. like stated above exhaust, clutching and weight reduction for the most part. By saying out of the box doesnt work for eveyone he is correct to a certain extent it all comes down to preference and what you expect to get out of your sled and your riding ability. He feels there are some minor changes to be done out of the box and thats fine im the same way but on the other hand there are guys who only go out the odd time and couldnt be bothered to modify anything or are perfectly fine with the performance of their sled as is. All that matters is that you are happy with what you ride everyones opinion of ''performing well" will vary.

LOL have a snickers and calm down bro! I don't know anything about sleds, just that they are run to ride. I don't get why everyone bags on the dudes who tweak and tune, its their life not mine, I like having a well running sled but don't want to monkey with it all day either but it doesn't take too much effort these days, much easier than the old days.

I encourage people to install extensive and time consuming tuning mods to their sleds because my philosophy is the more guys with their side panels open means the less guys ripping up the pow - more for me!

What about the guys that ride 20x more than the average joe and still leave there sleds stock

I was being sarcastic at the start of my post lol... as in... You CAN bash all my posts into the ground BECUASE you know everything lol. But that is a good point..... When maxwells Bannana 860 mod is broken there is alot more snow around for everyone else!! I dont have the knowledge for the tuning part..nor the modding part... That is why I have officially made maxwell my B*&^H........ But cylcing through a sled every year also limits what I can do.... And I also dont do ANY maintenece whatsoever.... Pick it up in november and dump it in april... Its expensive but usually selling them with the easy mods already on them and not charging ANYTHING for them usually makes the sleds pretty easy to get rid of before anybody knows whats coming for the next year! Speaking of which we (MAXWELL) is going to attempt to break all the lugs on my 3" track on wednesday.... So maybe I should stop talking until I find out if its going to explode or not!

Factory sleds just dont work? Yes they do. They are definatly great for bashin around learning to ride. Once you,ve been riding mountain sleds for 20years, the 160hp just doesnt do it for you any more and wont take you where you want to go you start thinking about turbos.

Us skidoo guys have had no good options on turbos until very recently. You couldnt pay me to ride a turbo Ptek and some of the etec turbos dont work to much better.

But TSS has come out with a turbo for the ectec(with boost it controller) that is flat out amazing. No Lag,No F'in around, No ruined weekend. Just a sled that will make you smile all day long. Its 8000$ but you are paying for some thing that works tho. Not a 4500$ cheapo kit that just will leave you pissed off.

Not everyone needs a turbo, but for guys that have been at this a while these are pretty sweet,, Opens up parts of the mountain that were never accsessable before and opertunitys for taking lines that were never though possible a few years ago.

Factory sleds are great,,light years ahead of where they were 10years ago,,but dont hate on the turbo!! lol
