Do factory sleds work? Yup. About the same as a factory vehicle. Most people will use their vehicle the way it was purchased off the shelf and be reasonably happy with it. Then there are the people that upgrade parts and pieces from stock. They will push their machine, take it places off the road a bit more. Fiddle and really get into the nuts and bolts of their rig and have fun doing it. It becomes a passion. Squeezing more from their original machine, pushing their own limits, and never being happy til they sell it for something new and look back and think to themselves what a great ride it was back in the day.

I tend to believe that those who frequent these websites are the above average joe's that want more from their ride. Want to push themselves and be informed from others about what to improve and what to tinker with to make our machines better pushing both our skill in the shop and on the hill further than we thought possible. But I'm getting way from the subject a bit...

Stock sleds work but there is also a need for aftermarket accessories for those that want more than average. As for reliability...Some will be built on a Friday and some in the middle of the week if ya know what I mean.

Did the doo demo ride today. The 2013's are pretty impressive in stock form. Props on Doo for the demo - just show up, jump on a nice new sled, get an air bag and some gear if you want it, coffee, go for a half day. Can't beat that. Highly recommend it...they're headed south.

The 146 is pretty fun to ride sure pulls hard. Didn't have very good snow or visibility so it was a good day to mess around on the short track. Wonder if they hop the demo's up at all...?

No protos or intel on 2014. No renegade backcountry either...all summits mostly 154 with a 146 and a couple of 163's. Both X and SP models.

Just reading the title of this thread... "factory selds dont work". Pretty much the only time I ever go on a trip without something breaking down and getting towed back... (other than myself smashing something) Is when all the sleds are stock.... Or close enough to stock not counting track's and cans or anything like that. Every heavily modded sled that I know of never runs two days in a row.... I dont care who you are. Then I have to listen to this "its just not set up right.... you should see my sled go!" BS....... Then the sun goes behind a cloud and THAT persons sled isnt running right.....Or we have to sit and play with boosts ...........or some kind of f^&*ing computerized BOX with led lights on it that NOBODY knows how it works but if you turn it up and down the sled runs different...... If "JOE PUBLIC" gets more riding in and doesnt have to be towing stuff down the hill all day than Turbo steve................. Then my name is Joe!

The 1990's called and wanted their mod sleds back.....LOL or was it Blower Bob that called? haha. I don't think we were talking about heavy mods (unless clutching, suspension tweaks and running board mods are now considered heavy modding....well, I guess some people think adding a can is modding their sled so....), we're talking about cans, pipes, tracks, maybe some clutching.....If you've added a can to your sled or a seat to lose 10-15 lbs then it didn't come from the factory how you liked it.

it was funny to watch the stockers try and keep up with the light mods at Xmas time. In 4 days of riding I played with my boondocker box for a total of 3 mins at lunch one day and my sled still runs great and didn't need to be towed off the mountain? Sucks to be me I guess.

Signed: Not Stock Steve :D
