Hey just thought it was high time we started a thread to discuss everything VHF radio.

Questions about what to buy, how to program it, what works and what doesn't.

I believe 8 Watt VHF Radios don't have to be a big investment, but I do think all riders should have them.
I will be making a spreadsheet and file for people to use when programming their radios.
It will have VHF channels for sledding, a snow and mud emergency channel for everyone to monitor as their second frequency, all the resource roads, bca channels, FRS, GMRS, trucker channels and a few others.

After going through a few hundred radios I will have to add this, I think those chinamen put every dam hardware in every dam radio out there. Pofung Nktech and Baofeng 5 watt 8 watt I doubt many could tell the difference. 2 days ago a simple UV-5r was picking up a signal 25k away. Zastone and tyt seem better built and heavier, although I have not tested ranges. I guess i should take the time to do this, but why, all i would get is a bunch of flack like skegpro got. Antennas do make a difference.

If this thread can stay on track it will be good. Any info is good info as far as I'm concerned. It's nice to know there is other options. I bought 2 radios from Ray, quick replies and sent out next day. Pre-programmed is What I liked. To busy with other things to dic$ around with that. The more info the better as far as I'm concerned. Ranges, antennas, different mics. I like being able to monitor 2 different channels. Think that's a neat feature. That being said I haven't played with them much yet.

Meh if it saves some ungrateful kunts life it's worth it.

These radios saved me once, just paying it forward.

I have tried quiet a few different mics so far, One did not even work, it was waterproof. I also have 3 coming. Best one so far is Bridgecom . Two out of the 3 coming look very similar to the Bridgecom. I will let you know how that turns out.

Ok, so I threw together a couple images for people to use.
One of a UV-G3TP and one of a UV-82HP.

Looking for feedback.
Basic necessities. Not much else.
I put together 5 Channels Sled#1-5 based on the 2M band plan for British Columbia and on a 15Khz spacing rasta as per standard.
I used a tone code as I find this helps with interference in addition to squelch.
I designated the national atv cordnation channel as our HELP! channel.
And then RR channels and all the fluff.

Help! is to be monitored on A.
B is to your mic talking channel, Sled#1-5

This way i figured if you actually need help you can switch to A and when you call someone from outside your group may actually be listening. (if we get enough buy in)
