Do you ride with your teather hooked to yourself?

Thought i would just post this as thought it would be something to think about .
It was started over on Snow West.
Some people will know who Iam talking about.

With the new fuel injected sleds i think it is even more important due to the fact that they can run upside down just as well .
Back when the RXL came out with FI a fellow was going down a hill that was icy and sled got out of control and pitched him.
The sled went down the hill upside down with him sliding after it. When the sled stopped he landed feet first into the sled with one leg getting picked up between the track and the tunnel.
Sled was wide open as throttle was pinched open with the way everything went.
So this sled had paddles and ran wide open with his leg in tunnel and burnt his leg off.
You get the picture,not nice. I wasn't there but sled with the fellow from time to time and he only has one leg and rides well.
The people that were there at the time will tell you it wasn't nice sitting waiting for the chopper and the smell was sickening.
Just something to think about?

Always ride with tether on........as natural as putting on a seat belt when driving a vehicle.

I will definitely be riding with my teather on the new etec, Maxwell was telling me about his buddys sled sitting upside down Pinned. Not good for the motor and not good for the sled.

Yes and i go as far as attach it to my coat , it isnt there for decoration. Also start the sled with break on.

I wear mine 100% of the time. It's handy when your underneath the sled, or you fall off as your watching it continue on down the mountain. :d

i will never wear my tether as long as i ride a carb sled. however i am concidering a teth-air. anyone on an efi sled should wear it i think. last weekend my friends new etec was upside down and all of the sudden it started to wind up full throttle as it was still slowly rotating downhill towards my friend. the throttle may have let up as it righted itself but the track would still be spinning at a high rate of speed and used his body to stop. it was a mad scramble digging under the sled trying to raech the rip cord. everything turned out ok but makes ya think.......i will asy my carb sled shuts off even if its laying on its side. soo not all that worried about it. the way i hang off my sled i think the tether could be a real issue for me. ditch banging is a different story.

Im a tether guy as well, nearly lost a sled off a cliff with the throttle stuck wide open last year, a pure miracle it kicked over on its side.

ya i wear mine most of the time.. if i dont put it on at the trail its on at the cabin.. its not nice seeing 270hp take off at Wide open throttle . it tends to pick up and go quick.

and also have someone rool over a 4stroke and it held wide open and took out the bottom end..

Out riding 2 years ago, one guy in our group takes a run at a hill back in Allen, hits a rut and kicks hin off lowside. Sled rolls over above him and throttle goes wide open when upside down. He is scrambling to get away from sled in deep snow as it rolls over him, (WIDE OPEN). This happens 3 times before he can get away from sled in deep snow.

He was lucky with a couple bruises. Shreaded his jacket, pants, and pack. Big gouges in his helmet. Even tore his jeans under his pants. Took a 1/2 roll of duct tape to close everything back up.

Wouldn't ride an EFI sled without one.

Have one carbed and one injected. Regardless, tether is on all the time on either one, trail or where ever. $hit can happen anytime, anywhere. Good idea about starting with the brake on. Teen age boy killed in these parts a couple of years ago when he started his and the throttle stuck open.

why don't the manufactures just put them on from the get go like they do for watercraft? ....but then again it would still be up to the rider to use it accordilngly and not just wrap it around the handle bar pad....I think they are a good thing....obviously so do the racers!

Put a Teth Air on this year, works ok but you need to be further from the sled for it to work than a regular tether. I have the antenna trimmed to the point where it occasionally dies, don't want to trim it anymore due to this.

How many people put on there tether then start there sled. most people fire up there sled get on gear then put on tether when they sit on the sled and are ready to go. i prefer to have my kill switch in a position that i can easily slap in case of stuck throttle while riding and always snap throttle 3 times before firing my sled just to ensure slide are returning to closed position. also brke locked on is a good practice for starting a sled.

My ditch banger doesn't have a tether after seeing the fence pics and hearing some of the other stories, it is getting one before the next ride.

I put a tether on my sled this summer. Not sure why they aren't factory considering the connection is right there anyway.
As for slapping the kill switch... sometimes it's not so easy when the sled takes off and your trying to hold on, decide whether you have time to hit it or bail. Trees move towards you fast at wot.
A friend had his jacket caught up in his track and he couldn't do a thing. Sucked him up pretty tight to the sled.
