He actually had 8" flames shooting out of it when it was running, its where his wastegate dumps.

It opens when desired boost is reached, it relieves some exhaust backpressure to control turbo speed, I believe it is routed there for simplicity as well as a simple way to know when max boost has been reached.

That makes sense, but if he was racing. Wouldn't the waste gate catch the hood on fire, after letting off in the 1/4 mile?

There is a piece of tubing it comes out, it exits between the hood and the windshield to keep the heat off both for exactly that reason.

I couldn't begin to imagine what that would feel like, and its not like insurance companies are lining up to insure such a vehicle.

They'd play the "Act of God" card
