I was up there that day the sled was left and ya I could see how they made that decision, was chest deep and crazy bottomless, we dropped into some trees at like 130 and spent 4 hours getting out, 4 sleds all 3” tracks and lots of experience, we weren’t even a km from the trailhead, I’ve rode Chappell a lot and never seen that kinda snow be that bottomless

I rode blue river/vale last weekend in those exact conditions . If they were not cabable of getting that sled out and off the mountain they should not be on the mountain. It was basically at the trail head, you either need to personally have some backcountry know how or at the very least ride with someone who does.

As someone once said “It looked like someone took a handful of sleds and threw them onto the hill, they were all stuck”. I was up there riding with some talent, and saw some dudes up there that have some talent...we were all stuck, they were all stuck. That’s called chasing the dream and figuring it out, he made a decision, probably wasn’t an easy one but got out a ok, got home and some good people dug it out and he’s picked it up. Win win at the end of the day so we should all be happy!

Yeah...we tried to come up from the bottom to where you are are her but nope! Wasn’t gonna happen in that snow! Was pretty RAD-TASTIC CONDITIONS for the maiden voyage of the G4!

Ya I will say that i was probably in my teens the last time I was stuck that many times in one day. I just can’t imagine leaving a new machine in the hills because it was stuck..... It was a mile from where the groomer quits.

He was vertical in a drainage, It was late, there was two of them and he made a decision, like I said probably not an easy one at that, but life matters more.

Well situation explained for me. Glad I wasn't there cuz I doubt I would have survived more than 1 stuck in that stuff. Only so much fun the old ticker can handle.

We were on Chappelle, Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. A lot of digging. Had one 165 with 3" lugs. Two 153s with 3" lugs. 154and 2 153s with 2.6 lugs. And we were full throttle to get anywhere. Over the windshield deep. Best riding I've ever done. Biggest issue was there was no definition. Bumps dips and flats all looked the same.
On Thursday we only put 60kms on, from the staging area back to the staging area. Used the shovels more that day

Lol ya we were down at the boundary and it was a lot of effort to get back up lol, there was 4 really tired guys at the end of the day lol

To all the newbies reading this thread... one of the best tips I ever got was when its this deep turn out WAY before you think you need to and make a circle so you can stop on your own track, ideally pointed downhill. This allows your buddy to go shooting past you on your poached track to get another 50 feet further before he makes the same type of circle giving you room for your turn. The circle idea gives you a track to stop on plus gets you out of your buddies way when he comes blasting up behind you. We did learn the hard way to give the guy in front of you enough time to complete the circle and get off the main track after my buddy used his friend's sled seat for traction! This idea saved us not all stucks but greatly reduced the number. Still took us all day just to get to the top of Sale at Revy. Any other ideas from the experts are most welcome!

The way the snow was this day was different than I’ve ever seen, found that poaching a track a lot of times actually hurt momentum, not the usual that’s for sure, that’s how we got out eventually but it took some major effort lol

Exactly the technique we deployed on this day! Lol. Still got burried but yeah it’s called breaking trail, gets you into some big cool stuff if you’re all on the same page and get into a groove.

Just wanted to throw this out there. The sledding community is great. Met so many awesome people up at Chappel on Friday. There was cats, poos, doos and I even seen a few yammys. And guess what. They were all stuck. Lol. It was unlike snow I’ve ever ridden in before. Very flat light. You could be riding along on flat land and just drop 4’. Not enough time to get on the throttle. BUT it was better than being at work.
