Rode Cataract for the first time in 20 yrs Monday. It was -35 in the parking lot when we got there! Went straight to the pass from Etherington. I forgot how short the ride in there is compared to some of the excursions that have become our norm in in the Golden area. Luckily it was only -12 up in the bowls. The previous weeks chinook winds had flattened all the pow my buddy experienced there the weekend before. Par for the course in this area but we still had a good day. I was surprised to see no one takes the trail leading towards the powerline down in Elk valley. Is it impassable now? We had some novice riders so l left it alone. We did follow some tracks that led us to some cut-blocks just north of Fording River mine. The snow was better over there.

Grooming update.

This last weekend the Calgary Snowmobile Club groomed again out in Cataract Creek. We used the big snowcat to push open the drifted in trails on the South trails. Skyline is open as well as Pasque. Many huge snowdrifts from the wind. Lower trails all sled groomed as well. Valley Bottom, Cataract Creek Trail, Raspberry, Etherington from staging area to Barill, up Barill to the Fording trail Junction.

Wind is blowing up there so get out before they all get blown back in. Trails are holding up still and we are out again grooming Wednesday. There is no shortage of snow. Get out and enjoy it Spring is coming.

Rode out there Sunday, had a great day...lots and lots of snow, and it was snowing hard there when we were leaving. Shout out to you Sledder Glen and all the volunteers who are looking after the trails, awesome job !!! (i've been riding down there 10 years now, so i really DO appreciate the difference the CSC and it's volunteers are making to this area)

If you were out riding yesterday and staged at Cataract, check your machine.

At the end of the day I found a license plate about 1/2 km from the parking lot. 2 other trucks were in there besides us. Both were gone when we got back.

I wasn't sure what to do with it, so I put it in the box that has the maps.

If anyone would like to do an intensive tour of the trails at Cataract, I need to put miles on to break in my new engine, and will be make two long runs on Saturday, leaving Etherington parking lot by 10 AM, and going from the north end of the system to the very south and back. I will do the first run beginning on the west most trails, and the second run on the east most trails. You are invited to join.

Good day... just for future occasions such as this, bring the plates into the city and I (or another club executive member) can arrange to meet with you. We have methods of finding out who the owner is and get get the plate back to them. If the plate is no longer even valid, we can turn it in for decommissioning so it is not used inappropriately by the wrong person.

Thanks,
Cam

Grooming update

Over the last week ALL trails but upper Raspberry have had some form of grooming done to them. Today we groomed Fallers 2 times, up and over Etherington to the Staging Area, and finished the day with Valley Bottom Trail. Snowcat was out last weekend and he bladed and groomed the higher trails down South. High South trails were blown in with big drifts. Skyline had drifts taller than the snowcats cab.
Talked today to a club member who has ridden there for MANY years and he compares the snow levels today to the big snow years in the 70s. He is impressed with the trails and how we have improved the area. Its a Team effort out there not just the Trail Crew. The whole club is supportive of the efforts going on. More to come in the years ahead.

Thanks

Went to cataract today and it was awesome. I think it’s the best it’s been in 20 years.
The pictures are from one of the clearings further south.
