Bought my membership and trail pass this morning. I've got some cash for gas money for you too if/when I see you out on the trails.

Thank you! You have joined a group committed to snowmobiling in general, and the work volunteers undertake at Cataract - be it winter or not. Look for Glen and his fellow trail stewards out there, grooming up a storm yesterday and today. I believe he indicated that he would be back out on Saturday too, with the big Snowcat, not the snowmobiles, like today and yesterday.

Okay, that sounds like a very efficient method. How would a guy throw in some $$$ to fund the diesel reserve without being on the trail that day?

I had someone email me that exact question this morning. You may go to our club website and either join as a member ($105) or provide a Grouser Bar Sponsorship ($100) as two methods. If you would like to provide funds, but want it to be smaller that either of these amounts, please call me - 403-560-6652 - and we can find another way as well. It was what I arranged for this morning. Scott

Got the membership, bought a grouser bar as well. Maybe the next meeting I’ll donate an Esso card (google says Longview esso has diesel).

I haven’t seen the trails since the cleanup weekends but I’ll get out there soon and admire the grooming work

while I am not affiliated with the Calgary Club..... I must say thanks on behalf of all clubs out there in Alberta. We need more people like you willing to support the efforts of the hard working VOLUNTEERS that maintain our riding area's.

Cheers!

Awesome, thanks so much. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, Feb. 6, at the Royal Canadian Legion #275, 755 - 40th St. SE., 7 PM. No need for the Esso diesel card, we source through another program, saving us precious, hard-to-come-by dollars for the club.

We did another day of grooming today. It was a short day but we still groomed with sleds. Well we started to groom Etherington today. This trail is rough but after today not as bad. Sled grooming takes many passes to get it real good. Today we did one. Its a start. When you get past Etherington trail the rest are way better. We will continue to work that trail. Tried to find a route to take the groomer around a narrow place in trail. No good. This summer we will apply for a reroute around washed out narrow section of trail. It never ends riders. This is a 4 season responsibility to make these trails better every year for snowmobiling.
Only one trailer in the staging area today. Fresh snow on the West side. Fording most likely got a reload. Enjoy play safe a remember Fording is a avy area and ALL gear must be worn and be prepared to use it.

Sledderglen Question? My wife and I plan on heading out on Monday and I am assuming the Cataract Creek staging area would be better to start from than the Etherington staging area?

Thanks

Really doesnt matter. We sled groomed Etherington Trail yesterday but trails from Cat are really good for the snow we have down in the valley. My recommendation is start from Cataract Creek staging area.
Be really cautious of logging truck traffic during the week. Go slower and be aware of whats coming around the corners. We are out there this weekend again grooming and Monday should be good.
Enjoy have fun

One more question are trail maps available at the staging areas? I looked at the one on the Calgary Snowmobile Club web site and it is quite hard to see the details.

Thanks

Yes maps at each staging area. Look for green box with maps in orange lettering on them. By the warm up shelter at Cataract Creek staging area

We had a great weekend of big groomer grooming. Snowcat working great BUT we managed to twist off a pintle hitch on Saturady afternoon. So Scott brought us a new out on Sunday afternoon and we had a late start but we got some done.

Thanks for Darryl,Mike Scott help to make these trails better this weekend out in the cold. -20 this morning but -4 this afternoon. Nice warm up and some fresh snow even.
Thanks for the fish and wildlife officers coming out again this weekend to keep us all responsible. Dont forget to have all your necessary documents on you while out riding. Plates insurance and proper helmet with plate visible. Good guys doing their job.
We have a nice new Trapper couple out there doing their thing. Good to see so many users in this area. Word is getting out that Cataract Creek is being taken care of again and things will get better.
Was nice to see families out riding and having fun there this weekend. Smoother trails makes up for colder tempertures.

Trails from staging areas getting a little thin but much better further away from staging areas.

Get out and enjoy. Be a week until we can get back out there again.

Moved to Calgary this month and the first thing I did was check out cataract and loved it went two days in a row. Just wondering are these trails open to atvs in the summer and are you allowed to camp in your RV in the staging area in the winter or summer to ride. Great job on the trails did all the loops and almost got all the way into fording but got a bit nervous since I was by myself so I turned around and will venture back in there when I have other riders. Thanks

HI Steve. Welcome to Calgary. This is a snow vehicle area. No motorized summer access. The club is allowed for maintenance purposes only. In the summer the area is used by hikers, horse and mountain bikers. There are campsites at both staging areas and camping is allowed in the staging areas only in the winter.

Thanks for the info guys and the great job you are doing down there sledderglen

Thanks for the comment BUT its a team effort Steve. We are a small group dedicated to keep the trails smooth. I`m focused on sled grooming and Daryll is our big groomer operator. I have 2 guys that help me. Mike and Dave. They make up my sled grooming team. Our grooming team and trail maintenance team are always looking for new members for year round help on the trails.
