Lets get this started for the upcoming season.

We are waiting for the OHV ban to be lifted so we can get out there and get going on some trail work.

Lots going on.

WE ARE BUYING A NEW TO US TRAIL SNOWCAT. This will help keep the trails in the best of conditions. If you want to help with some extra funding to assist us go to our website and donate. calgarysnowmobileclub.net.

There is a new bridge on Etherington Creek just out of the staging area. Thank you Backcountry Flood program.

We are trying to get permission to open up Valley Bottom Trail again for this season. With the dry conditions it is hard to make any plans to get a weekend out there to do the work.

This is just our first posting of the season more to come.

So I have question for anyone that would like to respond. We are wondering on how difficult the trail are out in Cataract? We as group have been riding for 5 years but our experience is flat land in central Alberta. Almost completely on frozen lake and sloughs and trails surrounding them. No snow deeper than a couple feet. We have riders from 15 to 70 that ride with us on a rag tag assortment of sleds. So the question is ...Is Cataract something we would or should ride? We are just not sure of the level of difficulty the trails will hold for us? I guess any sort of side hilling or sketchy creek crossings are 2 of our major concerns. All feed back would be much appreciated.

Cataract Creek Snowmobile Trails were built with beginner to intermediate riders (given today’s mountain riding that dominates the culture around these parts) in mind. The vast majority of the trails are set up with “family” riding in mind, but do access other areas that advanced riders can be challenged. Other than a couple of uphill pitches, most of the trails traverse valley bottoms and ridge top trails. Most of the uphill/ridge climbing sections are gently sloped/laid out, with a couple of pitches that would be challenging for a beginner. The Calgary Snowmobile Club will be hosting rides this winter at Cataract, and the schedule is almost completed. Information will be on our Facebook site about the rides, as soon as they are solidified.

You’re welcome! If you would like to attend a meeting and/or join our club, we meet the first Tuesday of the month - this year now - at The Royal Canadian Legion #275, 775 40th St. SE, near/just east of Deerfoot & Memorial. Meetings start at 7 PM. October’s meeting had Lori from ZacsTracs attend and talk about new information on Avalanche studies/knowledge. November’s meeting brings S.T.A.R.S. people to our meeting, for our annual fundraising kick-off, and a refresher on/ a bit about first aid care.

And our club groomer - new to us - has had almost 1,000 hours of volunteer work on it over the summer. It is back together and rolling/moving, and now we just have a few items we want to improve on the unit before we take it out to Cataract, when we know the snow is there and needs packing.

No hunting for me there.
BUT rancher came up to me asking if I was packing a gun. Wolves went on a hunt and found one of his cows. He had to chase a wolf off his cow about a KM from Cataract Staging area. Got a fat wolf and a broke rancher
No snow but a pile of trees blown over. 2 in staging area 1 in groomer area. Many in the bush. I could hear them crashing down

Well its snowing as we can all see. i will be heading out there to check the area Sunday and will report back.

Just a note to anyone thinking of going out to snowmobile. THE AREA IS CLOSED DURING HUNTING SEASON. Area doesnt open until December 1 2017. Even if they have snow the area is closed to general snowmobiling.

The club has special permission to maintain trails early season. So if you see tracks it could be from a trapper or club volunteers doing early season trail work. Lots of trees were blown down a couple of weeks ago.

The club is having a Volunteer Work Weekend out there on the November 11/12 weekend with some volunteers showing up there for the 10th as well. If anyone is interested in helping for anytime during that weekend please show up at Cataract Creek Staging Area in the morning. We are clearing trails of fallen trees and moving a small bridge back into place. Help is needed badly as we have alot to do after that big wind. If you care about the area, use the area, and want to help get involved and come on out and give us some of your time. Its fun and rewarding making a difference in your riding area. Also a chance to meet other riders that use the area and also meet the club members dedicated to improve the area.

Thanks Hope we have a good turn out.
