Brute Force 750 or Grizzly 700

I am going to purchase a quad soon and I haven't had anything to do with them for years. I will use it for hunting and trail riding and I avoid mud. There is no yamaha dealer here anymore so its a 2hour drive to the closest dealer. There is a kawi dealer in town that gives good service and I like buying local. I know the grizzly is a super solid quad. What are the new Brute force 750's like? Are they reliable? Any insight is appreciated. I will likely run stock size style tires and tracks for winter use.

Brute is great machine. It’s dated but really fun to drive. Biggest thing with them is drive in low when in 4x4 and when going in slow. They have the power to turn the tires in high but hard on the belt.

I think it would be tough to beat the Yamaha for reliability, value for money and resale value down the road, however supporting the local guy is not a bad thing. By all accounts the Kawi’s are decent machines, just lacking in dealer support. I’d quiz the dealer on common consumable parts availability on things like brakes, wheel bearings, seals etc. If they stock most of the commonly needed parts then you’ll probably be ok.

If I were buying a new quad I would look at these two machines to. I like the brute as I am a Kawasaki fan. Yamaha is probably one of the most reliable quads out there imo. It’s a tough choice but won’t be a bad one either way you go

I’ve had a couple Grizzlies with higher mileage and hours and they were still good solid running machines with good resale.
My buddy bought a new kawi in 2016 and it was an overheating lemon and the local dealer was no help. Resale on it is second to worst with only Cats being lower of the 6 major brands. He’s on a Grizzly now and loving it.

Grizzly is super reliable, brute force is more fun power wise. Both are decent machines.

It really depends on your trails on how useful or entertaining the twin cylinder really is. When I had my 1000, most of my trails were either too rough or narrow to really open it up. Unless your trails are road like, its more just blipping the throttle and spinning the tires. You'll always read that the twin cylinders are just leaps and bounds ahead of the singles (almost like comparing a dune buggy to a golf cart), but it really isn't. They have better throttle response and seat of the pants pull, but its not like the singles are slugs. If you like riding to the bar, buy the twin.

The Yamaha is such a well designed, well built quality unit. Of course that doesn't sound so glamorous in the brochure, but it took owning another brand which was regarded as well built to realize that. I'm not knocking the brute force, but when it comes to a utility atv, it is very difficult to look at something else when the grizzly is just so good. BTW, the grizzly is an absolute fantastic track machine.

Well I made many phone calls, online looking and I supported local. I picked up 750 brute force SE in orange. The dealer was great and I am glad to support the little guy. It cost a little more than a couple of other places but not worth driving for 200$$. If I have any issues it's 10min from my house to the dealer. I put the winch in yesterday (my choice) so I gained some knowledge on the bike. The first improvement I can see will be adding a shield on either side of the radiator to keep the mud off the rad when turning. It was nice working on a Japanese built unit, everything fits so good.

Congrats Claude, I'm sure you're going to like it. There are still quite a few 650's around, which should show you their reliability.

I was surprised to see that these are still made in Japan (J first in serial #). They are an old design and very proven. And supporting local these days is a must if we are to continue having local dealers. Lee at Fast Trax treats his customers good and so I bought a Kawi.

So I have 50kms on my Brute so far and here are some early observations:

Stock tires suck, I will change them out in the spring. I am thinking Bighorn 3.0's since I am not a mud rider.
The transmission shifts smooth, the H/L ratios are good. A Park position would be nice but the rear park brake works well.
There was no radiator/fan protection from wheel mud so I fitted some rubber to close this in. Should keep the Rad clean.
The shocks are typical stockers, and really not good enough for the speed this thing can go. I am going to put Elka stage 3 on it.
The engine runs awesome, and smooth. The closed loop EFI is dialed in. The low end power is so good.
The clutching is smooth and works really well.
The fit and finish is Japanese, so everything fits nice.
The seat is very comfy and the seating position fits me well.
I put Moose hand/thumb warmers on it, the separate adjustable ones with 5 temp settings. They work great so far. Kawi's grip glue is insane, epic battle to remove the grips lol.
3500lb moose winch, no report yet as I haven't needed it.
Kawasaki has very few accessories, really pathetic.

So far I am very happy, and will keep adding reports as I put some km's on it.
