yes there is camping and free at that. go across the bridge/dam, and hang a immediate left into the open area, and find a nice cozy spot. i don't know of any maps for the trails but they are everywhere you can't miss the trails.

no i think you should be okay its pretty hard packed there probably will be a few puddles there if your going in the next day or two, its been raining in this area for days. but the weather man says its suppose to be sunshine in the 20s for the rest of the week. however them trails will be muddy. they are muddy during the dry times. bring some good rain pants a winch. if it looks deep..........it will be deep and rutted. i ride a bike and i've only been out there a couple of times cause its always muddy out there, so i try to avoid it.

The elk river road is another good free camping spot! Lots of places to pull of there.[/QUOT

Can you be more specific about the elk river road. i've been out there only for work but would like to go and camp out there and ride. didn't see too many trails from the main road but my senses tell me that there will be some good riding out there but i just don't know where abouts? i was thinking around the gravel pit where they rack rigs might be alright??? any thoughts would be awesome or kilometer markers?

There are tons of trails at the Brazeau, we quad out there just about every two weeks. And as for a class A motor home there is lots of free space for you to camp, we have friends that take there class A out there all the time and have had no problems. You go across the dam and past the over flow gates and hang a right big open area there enjoy.......

Appreciate all the help and suggestions.
I decided to go to the dam, I'm just going to bring a cable and lock for the Quads.

Thanks,

Mudbog can you post me a lat & long of the camping area you are talking about. If you use Google earth you could give the co-ordinates.
Maybe someone could point it out point it out on Google Earth is the free camping area north of the dam

i say sure and tell my friend to wait at the camp
he says not a good idea proberly need both quads
i think for a second and i can see hes nervous
i told him to hit the road ..it was a set up

That doesn't surprise me. I grew up in Drayton and I have spent every summer at the Brazeau during the nineties. It was never like that. Now every long weekend it is full of punks, partying and leaving trash everywhere. When I went there for the first time with my quad, I was rudely told to vacate the area, as there was a huge teenager party happening nearby. Sadly, I was outnumbered by about 50 to 2, so I left and headed down the road, where I found a way better place to ride and camp. I have been there every year for the last 3 years, with the exception of this year as I am trying out a few new areas. I suggest to anyone, if you want to go and not worry about the disturbance of hooligans, go on weekends that are NOT long weekends.
