Bought a new tig welder

Well my other machines, quad and bike, aren't selling unless I am willing to give them away which I am not. So today I said fawk it, put the sxs on hold for a bit until our other cheques come in and picked up a miller syncrowave 210. Been wanting a tig welder for a few months now since I finished my tig course through Nait. Machine seems good. Will find out later today. Looking forward to being able to weld pretty much anything at home now.

Good choice with the TIG. That syncrowave is a super nice unit too. That's the route I would go if I could afford it.

Nice,more of a mig guy myself.Plan on building a new roll cage for my rzr this winter,gonna have to do something to keep from getting bored if we get no snow again this year .

I have a miller 252 for mig that is awesome. Tried the tig today. Did steel well. Tried a couple small chunks of aluminum together and it wouldn't puddle. I checked my setting and was wondering wtf is going on. Ummm yeah..... Didn't ground the pieces lol. So yeah. Tried again once the ground cable was connected and we are moving forward again lol. I am going to try welding twisted tea cans again with the timer. Tried in school. The instructor could do it. I kept burning through after 1/4"

I checked my setting and was wondering wtf is going on. Ummm yeah..... Didn't ground the pieces lol. So yeah. Tried again once the ground cable was connected and we are moving forward again lol. you have to empty the cans first.

I see why you got a tig,your gonna weld twisted tea's together and sell them as King Cans.Very smart,you'll make a killing selling them on s and m lol.

Kinda like a rifle magazine. Join two together. When one is empty you flip it over and let er rip!!

There's no way Keith would destroy a full tea on purpose Always make sure it's empty lol.

Now my 70 yr old dad loves them now to lol.

I might have to start rinsing out the cans too. The residue tea doesn't smell very good when burnt lol.

Nice welders I had one but didn't have a big enough breaker in the garage to run it. When welding thicker aluminum you need lots of power.

I have to get some bigger filler rod too. The only stuff they had on the shelf is too small. Bought it anyways so at least I could start playing.

Well I bought it AUG 1st I guess lol. Not much time on the machine and it smoked the board tonight. Need to figure out the warranty situation now. AND find my damn receipt.

How was the nait course? How long was it.
Was looking to take something like this.

Bought an Everlast 255EXT and have been learning to use it via u tube, but some hands on instruction would be cool.

That course was well worth the money. The instructor was great and knew what he was talking about. We went through steel at first, then stainless and finally aluminum. He was able to answer any questions we had. If I had to do it again I would. I also wanted to take the course before I bought a machine so Id know what to buy. I didn't know you had to use ac for aluminum. I almost bought a cheaper dc only machine.

Apr 27 to May 25 - Mon, Wed, Thu : 6:15 PM - 9:15 PM
Class runs Mondays, Wednesday & Thursdays. A material fee of $25.00 plus GST for Learning Modules will be added upon registration. Personal protective equipment (PPE) required: Safety glasses, CSA steel toed boots, leather jacket, cutting or welding goggles, welding gloves (gauntlet style). Personal welding helmet recommended. Beanie (optional).

I hope the one at NAIT is better than the one I took at SAIT. it was terrible, the course material was old photocopied crap that was ancient. They handed out material for welding like it was diamonds. I ended up bringing stuff from home. If I had to,do it again I'd put the money into consumables and use YouTube as the tutorials.

Don't use YouTube for learning! I have seen lots of welding videos and very few know how to weld! Take a course or find someone that knows how to weld and learn from them. And when learning only take advice from one guy and one guy only, because if not you will get 30 different points of view and be more confused then when you started!
