Did you sign up for that course? If you do it I'd like to hear your opinion.

Well I am happy to say I picked up my welder today. It was covered under warranty. Fried the board like I thought. He couldn't tell me what may have caused it. He said they tried to reprogram it first but had to replace the board. I said yeah it smoked and zapped pretty good so no, programming wouldn't work.

Sick of working on my sxs so got the tig back together and Finally getting things set up well. Top weld still had too much crap in it. Adjusted a couple things and pounding out consistent beads working from the bottom up.

Takes a lot of power to tig weld 3/16+ aluminum. Most home garages don't have a big enough breaker to weld it. Need 408volt or bigger. Then you are good to go.

Does a mig machine with a spool gun produce strong welds on aluminum or is tig the way to go?

Tig is better. But mig is cheaper. In some cases you have no choice but to use mig like at our work. We are welding on top of trailer and time is a factor.

So for you guys that know what you're doing is this from the piece getting too hot? The beads start out nice and get to the point they don't flow nice. Bottom beads vs the very top one in the pic
