Aluminum is like a sponge what's on it is in it! Use 4043 tig rod. It doesn't mind dirt as much. And make sure there's a good puddle going before you add filler rod.

I switched over to 5356 at work and it has been working a lot better then 4043 so when I bought my 1/8 filler for home I went with 5356 also. My smaller rod is 4043. At work we use a spool gun. No tig.

Well my other machines, quad and bike, aren't selling unless I am willing to give them away which I am not. So today I said fawk it, put the sxs on hold for a bit until our other cheques come in and picked up a miller syncrowave 210. Been wanting a tig welder for a few months now since I finished my tig course through Nait. Machine seems good. Will find out later today. Looking forward to being able to weld pretty much anything at home now.
Does it run on 110 or 240?

Oh that's right 220. Now do you get your best weld using 220 or does the 110 do a pretty decent job of it. I would think that 110 would not have the juice to do a good job of it or breaker capacity. For Aluminum that is..

Honestly I haven't tried the 110. I have a big mig and plasma cutter also which run off 220 so I just switch over each plug for whatever machine I am using. 110 volts would work ok Im sure but just limited to lower current.

Steel I am awesome. Aluminum I don't do it enough to have perfect welds every time with a spool gun and need to get more time in with the tig for perfect welds. I was planning to do a crap load last weekend when my machine went Kapoot.

Can you weld 3/16 aluminum tubing with ease?

Takes a lot of power to tig weld 3/16+ aluminum. Most home garages don't have a big enough breaker to weld it. Need 408volt or bigger. Then you are good to go.
