We had a crap load of token at Nait. He gave us the book to read, but that was on our own time. We met in the classroom but didn't spend much time in there. 10 minutes there then into the classroom. I have done a heavy duty apprenticeship so I know about good instructors and bad. This guy was great. I wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't worth it.

Don't use YouTube for learning! I have seen lots of welding videos and very few know how to weld! Take a course or find someone that knows how to weld and learn from them. And when learning only take advice from one guy and one guy only, because if not you will get 30 different points of view and be more confused then when you started!

Sounds like NAIT has a better course than SAIT. As for YouTube, if you first educate yourself on the basics from Lincoln or Miller websites it can be a good resource. The best choice is obviously hands on training with a skilled journeyman, but that's not always available. I had quite a bit of stick and mig experience when I took the course at SAIT, so I was hoping for lots of hands on learning the tricks of tig welding. Didnt get it. If you're relatively intelligent you can gain good skills with online resources and some consumables. Most welders I've met wouldn't be much help with learning as they're at their limit already.

Nope. I'll have to look at his card again. I think his name might be Landon?

So everyone had their own welder and the instructor just floated around, or how did that work?

How many in your class?

We each had our own booth and welder. He told use what to do and we did it. I think we had 12 in the class. The welders were miller dynasty 350. He had them set up so we had a lot of time welding. If anyone had issues or questions he would answer them. Showed us how to weld and did demos then we were to do the same. All position welding. Did 3 pass as well

The instructor could do the cans. I could get about an inch then id burn through. I have been wanting to try it again with mine now that I have thicker filler rod and can practice more.......if I ever see my welder again

Ionic bombardment. That's my attempt to look smart.

Welding cans together is tough! Hardest part of welding aluminum is there is no heat indication. It looks the same cold till it melts

Most of my aluminum welding is good but not all. Sometimes it just goes to sh1t. It is one of the reasons I wanted to do a crap load of tig welding on the weekend. Get back into practice, slow things down. Some aluminum is so fricken dirty it is hard to get everything to flow right.
