I am sure that the RCMP have tagged all of the plates in the lot I hope that everyone that was there and made it safely out calls their families , I personaly know of 2 that are still unaccounted for

This is Showtime's wife, i just hijacked his account to read what is happening and if their has been any upates. I just keep thinking of the mayhem that must have been on that mountain and the choas as the tsunami of snow hit all the people out there to have a good time. Our hearts and prayers truly go out to all those families that were up on the mountain that day, the SARS team and all the wives, children and families waiting to hear from their love ones. I hope you all get to hear the sweet sound of their voice tonite.

It's a very sad day just thinking of what had happened and my condolences go out to the families and snowmobile clubs, even though i am thousand miles away the feelings are there. let,s all be strong and pull together and help each other through these terrible times. thanks

The push for more avalanche awareness the last few years, from friends, fellow riders, media, and especially sites like this (arguments included), means there were a lot more beacons and shovels on spectators up there than there would have been a few years ago.

REVELSTOKE, B.C. — Search-and-rescue workers resumed their ground search Sunday following a massive avalanche in eastern British Columbia this weekend that killed at least two men and injured 30 others.
Workers with dogs were going over the ground, looking for people who might be trapped under the snow at Boulder Mountain outside Revelstoke, RCMP Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said.
He called their work a “recovery/rescue” effort.
“I don’t think we ever want to give up hope. There is still faint hope,” he said. “We have to be optimistic, but we also have to be realistic about the time that has gone by now.”
There were about 200 people gathered on Boulder Mountain’s Turbo bowl to watch the annual Big Iron Shootout — an unsanctioned snowmobile event — when the avalanche struck, around 3:30 p.m. local time Saturday.
It was “like a bomb went off, a war zone,” said Kathy Berlingette, the owner of a nearby campground at the foot of the mountain.
During the event, participants all watch from below as one driver tries to race uphill as fast as possible, she said.
Berlingette said many snowmobilers were able to get out before the tidal wave of snow came crashing down.
“They seen the avalanche coming down, got on their snowmobiles and rode out ahead of the avalanche.”
Dewinton Blair, 23, who witnessed the avalanche, said he watched “the whole ridge let go.”
“The avalanche scrambled the machines and wrapped them around each other,” the Calgary man said.
“You could see people’s arms, legs and heads sticking out of the snow. They were yelling for help and trying to get out. There were a lot of broken legs, arms and wrists.”
The avalanche has left one person in critical condition and three others are in serious condition in area hospitals.
Nineteen people have been released from hospital so far, police said.
Moskaluk could not give any estimate of how many people were still missing as of Sunday afternoon.
“We’re fairly confident that a large number of persons have been able to get off of the mountain,” he said.
Revelstoke is located in eastern British Columbia, approximately 550 kilometres northeast of Vancouver and 400 kilometres west of Calgary.
The Provincial Emergency Program has set up an “emergency social services centre” at the Revelstoke Community Centre to help determine who might be missing and provide services to family members.
“It’s a major tragedy,” said Revelstoke Mayor David Raven.
Mark Shaede, who witnessed the avalanche from afar and rushed in to help search for fellow snowmobilers, said the snow appeared six to 12 metres deep.
“I’m fairly sure that there are going to be more recovered bodies,” said Shaede, president of Revelstoke Snowmobile Tours.
“Many snowmobiles became damaged and buried and unrideable, and the numbers didn’t match all those people who didn’t have a sled.
“It was too deep to probe,” Shaede said. “It’s massively huge. We had steel probes we put together that were maybe three or four metres in length. We weren’t even close to getting to the bottom.”
“We found some snowmobiles with our probes, and those were anywhere from three to seven metres down. And we couldn’t get to some of them.”
The Big Iron Shootout is an annual event on four areas of Boulder Mountain — the super bowl, sugar bowl, bullpen and turbo bowl.
The competition in past years typically involved 10 teams of 11 riders who compete in the extreme events, racing up the side of the mountain and pulling jumps and stunts.
The event has engendered controversy within the local sledding community for the approximately four years it has operated, said Revelstoke Coun. Steve Bender, who also acts as the city’s liaison with local snowmobiling groups.
“The Big Iron Shootout is where people come from quite distant areas to bring very powerful, souped-up machines and to see how far they can climb up a big mountain. It’s extreme high marking,” he said.
“There have been concerns with it not being covered properly for safety,” Bender added.
B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell thanked the rescuers on Sunday, calling the avalanche a “terrible tragedy.”
“I want to commend the efforts of rescue personnel and volunteers who quickly responded to those in need and prevented further tragedies,” Campbell said in a news release.
Two investigations — by the Revelstoke RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service — are underway to determine “the causal factors and what exactly took place,” Moskaluk said.
The avalanche struck just hours after the Canadian Avalanche Centre issued a special warning for Saturday and Sunday, noting avalanche risk is very high for the Kootenay-Boundary area, along with the southern Selkirk and Monashee Mountains and the Southern Chilcotin Mountains north of Whistler.
There have been at least 10 avalanches in the Kootenay-Boundary area since Friday, as snow continues to pile up, creating weak layers in the snowpack that can cause major slides.

very sad to hear prayers go out to all the families involved in any way. Only question i can't get out of my head is how did it happen? Everybody knew that this event was going on there this weekend and that hill was being used. is it just a trajic accident or did the avy experts miss something? one would think that given the extreme dangers in our sport combined with the high avy conditions that this hill would have been very closely monitored and if a condition was extreme for an avy that it would have been set off prior to the event or the event would have been posponed till the situation could have been dealt with. hope that everyone still unacounted for is found alive.
