I got a Generator currently wired 300volts low end 600 volts high end. I'm gonna use it out on the farm if it can be reconfigured.

Anybody know anyone that does this sort of stuff in Edmonton?

It’ll probably be 347/600 volt. Depending on Kw size of the generator, you just get a transformer for 347/ 240 and a 240 volt panel and just use 2 of the 3 phases. May not be cheap though depending on what size of transformer you need.

210KW 263KVA Voltage reads Low 300 505amps High 600 253amps. I don't see anywhere that it says 347/600.

You'll need a transformer for sure, and it won't be cheap. Likely better off selling the 3406 & buying a skid mount already set up for mobile operation. They can be had pretty cheap these days at Ritchie Bros

Wow. That’s a big genset! 347/600 is one of the standard voltages for Y wiring in Canada. In this case you’ll probably get a 600-240v transformer and panel etc. Ain’t gonna be cheap.
Depending on how big your load is like oneoldfart says you might be better off cost-wise to sell it and buy a genset closer in size to the load you have. Running a small load on a big genset can create problems for the engine longer term.

What do you want to power with it? The whole farm or just a particular load?


What size and type of service does the farm have? Single phase or 3 phase. How many amps at what voltage.

It will be back up power for the whole farm with the exception of when I’m drying grain. The dryer requires 250 amps of single phase 240 volts. I would think this will be enough to run the farm as back up as well. I think currently the farm has a 15kva transformer.

20 times the size required for most acreages back up power. Not very practical to transform $$$ . 10-15kw is normal. 60kw would run the dryer.

Do the dryers have heaters or just blower motors. You could probably get away with a 75 Kva 600 to 120/208 3 phase transformer. But running heating elements at 208 volts only produces about 80% of the heat. The motors are probably 230 volt rated so they will operate at 240 or 208.

If I was building that set up, I would budget about $3000 for materials or $5000 with Labor as a minimum. You could always spend more if you get fancy but you really need to do some shopping around to spend any less.

Ah sorry not an acreage, Have a 15KVA now and not enough power 25-30kva would get it done.

Dryer runs on gas for heat power for motors. As said before 250 amps of 240 volt required.

Found somebody to reconfigure the Generator from 600volts three phase to 240 volt single phase. Will update.

Yep, got that message.


As said before a 75 kva 120/208 volt transformer could do the job. Just would need to balance the single phase motors on the 3 phase system.

The 3 phase transformer is just a lot more common than a 240 volt, and I could probably find a good quality reconditioned one at a reasonable cost.


But if the geni can be reconfigured at a reasonable cost that would be easier. Hope that works out for you!

Hey 007sevens, make sure you plan to install a proper transfer switch set up to prevent back feeding the land line. Very important to isolate your source.

yes, This will be a big install. We are planning on removing the electrical grid on the farm down off the poles and redoing everything underground. As well as powering a couple new locations for power. Gonna have a electrical company busy for a couple weeks me thinks.
