i have the costco ones, i ran 15" 2x2s on each side of the ski ones and a 2x2 stacked on another 2x2 on the rear to go between the lugs. the rails sit on the 2x2. and i use a strap going from handle to handle over the spindle to keep the ski ones from firing across the floor. It works 10 times better than the way they came.

care to post photo's of your alterations?

only pic i could find of them. you can see the 2x2 and how they are mounted.i just drilled holes in the dollys and put screws thru into the wood.

the wood on the ski ones could go even longer, they can flip a bit if you hit a rock or something, longer would ease putting them on probably as well.

I run the ones that look like the sure grip ones. They work great. The cables do wear out a bit after use but it's a cable. Easily replaced with new cable and crimps.

I haven't ever seen them locally. Ordered them online. I saw similar ones on Amazon recently for around $100 shipped. Thought about a second set to replace the other crappy set.

I run a set of purchased ones and a set of home made wood ones....home made works better.

I've had the best luck with these. Only problem is the chitty cables on the ski dollies.

I have these. I got pissed off at the cable set up so I kept the one side that deosnt have to come off and cut the other one. I replaced it with a small chain. Now it is easy to put on and take off and they stay tight. I have tried the other ones and they are garage. Gave them away with my old sled.

I still have an old set of car dollies kickin around and tried them out with a sled I just got today. Loaded the skis onto them and road it across the rough asphalt to the garage no problem at all. Threw a third under the track and wheeled the sleds across the concrete apron and into the garage evenhandedly. These are bigger wheels which roll very easy on most surfaces, and the larger plates help spread the load better. Never moved an inch off the skis with a bumpy 75' ride down the driveway. Not the cheapest option out there but larger car dollies are way better than any of the crappy little things I used to try from Princess Auto. I like the long T board idea that one can ride onto, and might build a couple of those this winter. Good wheels are a must!
