Yeah it bugs me when I started in the trades it was $20 an hour top dog wage in the 1990s, now the kids laugh at ya if they don’t get $30 to start with no skills yet wtf?

My first welding job was $5.50hr. But I worked my ass off and the boss gave me $6. My first j-man job was $21hr. We now have a welder at my shop that thinks he needs $40hr, he didn’t know to get the shop in 4x4 or that you needed to turn it on to see how much fuel was in the tank. He thought it should read the amount of fuel even when it’s turned off. He’s the managers son. They kept him instead of me.

Yah it was a pretty chitty job, I loved it in the good weather, used a scooter with paper bag on the bars, Fairview was on a hill so I had my drops set up that the heaviest volume was for my downhill parts..... Collections sucked from about 20% some others were great, I had some who would tip $5 every 2 week pay period, that was as much as they paid for the paper itself.... I did that crap from grade 8 until grade 10 when I got my BK gig

i dropped a resume off at sobeys today to stock shelves, 15.50 an hour lol.
What was minimum wage for you guys back in the day? I remember working for 4.90 an hour then got bumped up to 5.50 I think shortly after in 2001?
I stocked shelves at IGA back before it was Sobeys in ~2001 for 5.90 an hour.

Started in the trades at a hydraulic shop for $14 an hour in 2006. Jman rate was $21 at that shop. In 2019 the Jman rate at the SK mine I was working at was 4x of what I started at Back in 2006. Unfortunately it shut down. Now I’m starting my own business. I Probably won’t even see $14 an hour. BBBUUUTTTTT not having 41% deductions on my pay cheque will be pretty nice. Im tired of being taxed to death.

Those deductions are still there, they are just spread out differently and have different names

Pumped gas at a small town Gulf gas station/automotive repair shop. This was during high school. I think it was like 3.75 hour.
Ended up doing apprenticeship for automotive mechanic. That was a long time ago.

not sure what happens here.
It's like the farmer joke where the gov't shows up to talk to the employees. So the guy he's talking to says yeah there's 2 employees Bill works 45hrs a week and makes $25/hr and the other retard works 150hrs/week for $9/hr. Gov't says yeah I want to talk to that guy. Guy says that's me and I'm the owner.
