Circled-mistake, hope your buddy gets well soon. My son, his friend, and myself were in Valemount the 27-28. The second nite both my son and his friend were sick all nite to the point that snowmobiling the next day was out of the question. Myself ,I felt ok. We decided to leave for home that morning. As the drive went on I felt more and more ill. By the time I got home about 4:30 I went straight to bed. 2 day later I was able to crawl out of bed for more than 20 min. My son was the same. I have never, in my life been bed ridden like that. I still do not feel 100%. After reading this post I have now made an appointment with Doc this morning to confirm.

Horrible to hear about your friend, best wishes to him and hope for a happy recovery.

I stopped going into public hot tubs many years ago. You have to worry about the hygene of random strangers as well as the competence of an underpaid hotel worker. I'll only go in a friends hot tub if I know it's been well maintained.

I posted this link in the post that was deleted. I feel it is worth reading as in my opinion it is not Hot Tubs that are the cause here but the Domestic Hot Water Heaters in the affected building.

This link provides truthful information regarding Legionaires Disease and how it is spread- http://media.wattswater.com/F-36QA.pdf see points 1-7, and #24 for those that don't want to read the whole thing.

Can some else post it via a direct link to the Post?? I am unable to reformat the file size.

Thanks

well who are you pointing fingers at. i'm lookin out for myself, you do what ya like. there may be people infected and have still no idea. hotel may have a name and cc, but may have home or bus #. no cell#. how do you suppose they get contacted. you put a lot of faith into the gov. and health authorities. i don't.

the disease is not completly understood, person to person transmission has not been found, but it may be possible. found in hot water tanks, showers, spas and hot tubs. and takes 2 to 10 for symptoms to appear.

look out for yourself, no one has more at stake than you.

Hope your buddy recovers from this. As for public hot tubs you would not catch me dead in one, just a great big public bathtub!!!!!!!!! My niece is a nurse and some of the stories she told me about the goodies you can contact from a public hot tub were pretty scary:eek: Nuff Said.

We are scheduled to arrive in Valemount Jan.18 for the Rasmussen Ride and this obviously has me concerned. So here is what I have done to try and protect myself and my friends. We are staying at the BestWestern. I have called there this morning and spoke to them. The lady I spoke with was very informative and was very well aware of the situation. I asked straight out if they were the affected hotel and was told no. So this sets my mind at ease now.

I hope for a fast recovery of anyone affected. If simple Codes and standards as outlined by the Canadian National Plumbing Code were applied and followed this would be totally avoidable. Unfortunetley many provinces are very slow at adpoting new codes at the provincal level and events like this occur.

that's a good read, there are too many pages to convert and post here though. interesting that they say air conditioning is not a transmission source, that is where I had always heard that Legionnaires' was most prevalent. we treat our ac cores in the trucks with a minty smelling aerosol spray that kills bacteria, every spring before we fire them up for the first time. that info pack actually says they believe that transmission is mainly from accidentally getting water into your lungs (like taking a drink and it goes down the wrong pipe) instead of breathing in steam or mist. seems a little odd, as I wonder how many people actually do that at one time and place such as the Philadelphia outbreak in 1976 when it was first discovered, when 221 people contracted the disease and 34 died. that's a lot of people accidentally getting water down the "wrong pipe" at once. not every body does that, but everybody certainly breathes.
