Soory about your friend. I hope he's better soon!

Just add the name of the hotel as "it MAY HAVE BEEN xyz hotel" and remove all liability.

My point. He could have said his friend went in a hot tub and got sick after sledding didn't need to say the town. That's all.
Glad to see someone else is wondering about the post. I'm not a smart man, but I think the point is you should not go in a hot tub in valemont, or a pool, or anywhere else for that matter. And what are you doing in valemont, snowmobiling? You know what happens to sledders in the mountains. And don't drive there either to look at the scenery, people die in car crashes in the winter in the mountains. And don't eat chicken wings(choking). Think I got everything. Let round two of the online bashing begin.

You know, what?? TO BE HONEST, I DONT CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK ABOUT ME SAYING IT WAS IN VALEMOUNT...!!!!! dragin stated something that shocked me.... Would you rather just the one place take note of the possible issues arising due to dirty hot tubs.... IMO, I want ALL hotels, motels, cabins, ANYONE THAT PROVIDES A SERVICE SUCH AS THIS, should take it as an eye opener that maybe they should drian and completely clean, JUST BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED..... I dont know about everyone elses thoughts, but I'm just about losing a friend, does it take a death to show that this is NOT an issue to take LIGHTLY..... Sorry for all the caps and yelling but I am not going to sit here and read peoples threads "shouldnt have named town", or "shouldnt this" or "shouldnt that"....

Rant over

*honestly I thought I did a GREAT SERVICE to the rest of the SandM club, guess not...

these vague posts are what annoys me about forums on the net. You've just painted all the places to stay in valemount with the same brush. You need to get all the facts before you post things. Where'd they stay? Name of the virus? How long before the went to the doctor? Was anyone else sick?

You haven't told us anything more than your friend is sick in the hospital in a coma. That's a pretty serious condition for there not to be a serious investigation.

Yes i sound skeptical but think about all the places you affect in small towns like valemount by saying stuff like this. There are some very hard working people that will have there livelihoods affected by this vague post.

read last post....

All the complaining and whining doesn't surprise me. I hear and read it all the time. It is just like Grooming 101; everyone has an opinion and can do it better than the groomer operator.

In this case it is Circled-Mistake thinking he is doing a service and being proactive and informative. But everyone jumps all over him because he should of done this or should have done that......everybody has an opinion and everyone has to express it with no concern for the thought process. Whatever happened to the good old days......boy this world is changing ever since the younger generation learned to type and found there were no consequences.

Circled-Mistake, I commend you on your actions (if this guy actually got the bacteria/virus from a hot-tub) and I agree with Maxwell. I wish all the best to the friend of your cousin.

My wife had surgery at the Misericordia Community Hospital a year ago this month. We were talking to one of the nurses about this because my wife likes hot tubs. We got a real eye opener with this. The nurse also worked in the Infectious Disease Ward and had many a story about hot tubs. For starters, the main problem is not knowing how to blend your chemicals the right way. This intern makes for the perfect breeding ground for these nasty little critters :( A strong chlorine odour is a good sign to think twice about a soak or a swim. Hot tubs and pools in any hotel in any town or city are susceptible to these problems. All it takes is a small paper cut and your world could be turned upside down real fast. So if you want a real education on this matter go to the Infectious Disease Ward at your local hospital and the truth will scare the hell out of you...I promise.

Our thoughts and prayers are with this man, his family, and friends for a full and healthy recovery.

[h=2]LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE - outbreak - HIGH probability from VALEMOUNT BC -Jan2012[/h]
JANUARY 7, 2012

We have been informed that our close friend Greg Thor has contacted LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE in Valemount BC

If anyone else has contracted this virus please add to this post and notify everyone that was at VALEMOUNT BC over the christmas hilodays to get checked
It may just seem like the flu for 3 or 4 days but you could be on life support in 7 days like Greg is now.

Link to Gregs original thread is

The most probable location is a HOT TUB, SAUNA or SPA while in Valemount over the Christmas Holidays
The Canadian Center for Disease Control has been notified and a vaccine/antidote has been shipped to Edmonton and is being administered ASAP.
Legionnaires Disease is a KILLER which originates from a mold spore and you breath it in, then it attacks you entire body from within.
It is not transmitted from People to People but from air bore mold spores that you breath in.

Signs are Vomiting with diarrhea the same as the flu but no signs of recovery
In Greg’s case the symptoms mimicked the flu for a few days but then got terribly worse and was hospitalized in about 4 days and on FULL life support in 7 days.

Greg is still in a medically induced coma with LEGIONNAIRES DISEASE on full life support systems
This has been confirmed by the University of Alberta Hospital and by the Canadian Center for Disease Control (CDC)
The CDC has shipped the vaccine/anti so

If you were in VALEMOUNT BC since the beginning of December to January and cannot shake the Flu symptoms you should see your doctor immediately as you may have been exposed to the Legionnaires spores.

Legionellosis is a potentially fatal infectious disease caused by gram negative, aerobic bacteria belonging to the genus Legionella.[SUP][1][2][/SUP] Over 90% of legionellosis cases are caused by Legionella pneumophila, a ubiquitous aquatic organism that thrives in temperatures between 25 and 45 °C (77 and 113 °F), with an optimum temperature of 35 °C (95 °F).[SUP][3][/SUP]
Legionellosis takes two distinct forms:
Legionnaires' disease acquired its name in July 1976 when an outbreak of pneumonia occurred among people attending a convention of the American Legion at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel in Philadelphia. On January 18, 1977 the causative agent was identified as a previously unknown strain of bacteria, subsequently named Legionella. Some people can be infected with the Legionella bacteria and have only mild symptoms or no illness at all.
Outbreaks of Legionnaires' disease receive significant media attention. However, this disease usually occurs as single, isolated cases not associated with any recognized outbreak. When outbreaks do occur, they are usually in the summer and early autumn, though cases may occur at any time of year. The fatality rate of Legionnaires' disease has ranged from 5% to 30% during various outbreaks. "The death rate for patients who develop Legionnaire's disease while in the hospital is close to 50%, especially when antibiotics are started late," according to the NIH and U.S. National Library of Medicine service's MedlinePlus. Most infections occur in those who are middle-age or older.[SUP][7]

maybe public pools but dont think hotel tubs have too many health inspections,,, lets hope they do haha

dont know whats better a dirty sled tub or a dirty couples tub eeeekkk
typically samples need to be sent to health authority 2x a month for commercial tubs in hotels.

I think I was understood wrong. I wasn't trying to say your friend didn't get sick or you you were lying. It's obvious now with new evidence you were never lying or BSing. I'm just trying to point out that when people post only part of the facts it can get taken wrong and people will go right off the deep end with it. Small towns need all the support we can give them or they turn into ghost towns.

Sorry to hear about your friend but at least they say they have a treatment for it.

All the facts will come out soon. This and any other town can have the same problems. Lets not get on a anti-Valemount thing again. Like mentioned all thru this thread small towns need visitors. This place will be found, if not already and changes will be made. The different health aggencies are already on it I would think. Be carefull out there whereever you go to vacation.

Hope you friend gets well soon
