Well they say that there are a lot of variables depending on how the electricity is generated. And yes 84 miles doesn't seem like very much range but it would suit 90% of peoples daily needs. As the price of batteries continues to drop in dollars per kWh, range will increase.

These so called Zero emmision cars take a lot of power, most people on here are not aware of how much that is... but jhurkot knows. Lets just say it is winter out and you have it plugged into a 110 15amp circuit for 8hrs you might get 1% charge on those batteries or maybe not, at this temperature you might get 2% charge. Lets say your off the grid and power is no longer "magical" and now you have to deal with first hand, how would you do it?? The magic of a solar panel that might run a couple of light bulbs in the summer. Well the real world my honda 2000 generator would not make enough power to run a 15 amp circuit, i should have bought a bigger unit.. i was in denial.

They do use a lot of power. However 500km of range on the equivalent of 9L of gasoline is quite good isn't? (1.8L/100km)
Charging with 120V power at -20 is essentially useless. The energy going into the battery at that temperature is going to heat the battery and not charge it. If you have proper charging at home (30amp 240v is sufficient) then what you do is plug your car in at night and set the charging to start at 2am. When you leave at 8am you will have a warm battery. If you are considering an electric vehicle it's important to have your charging situation figured out BEFORE you buy the car. In the summer time you can easily charge off 120V and be fine if you're only driving 100km a day.

I get it there are a lot of EV haters in this thread but how many of you have actually driven one??

They are just being practical and not believing the great load of horse chit being fed them by government and MSM.Right now these things are not affordable or practical for most of us rural rednecks. I'm glad yours is working for you and that you are giving us real world reports on how these things work.

Hahah. I didn’t get one penny from the government for my car. Even if you totally ignore the “environmental benefit” of an electric car it is still superior in nearly every category except for one. Refill time.

I’m also conducting an interesting experiment right now. Just let our trucker (50yrs old, hauling grain for about 30 years) take home our Chevy volt for the night so he didn’t have to drive his semi empty for 100km. I’ll let you know what he thought of it tomorrow.
