Scale is a powerful thing. Buying 2 double A batteries for your remote control is different than buying 7000 Panasonic 18650 cells for a 100 kWh EV.

Technology products go down as scale increases. Remember when a 42”” inch plasma tv used to cost $10000 USD?

a 42 inch plasma TV wasnt built with a limited supply mineral.

So what about a long distance highway trip...Edmonton to Winnipeg for example. Right now I can pretty much do it non stop if I want. How many charges would I need and how long would it take? Also,I'm assuming charging stations will become more plentiful as ev's become more popular, but let's say 3 or 4 cars are waiting in line for 1 plug in, how long will that set you back?

Its like this, new cars are more efficient to operate than old cars, far better MPG

Fuel is getting more and more expensive.

so in this comparison the dollars per kWh is getting more efficient, but the battery itself is like gas, it keeps going up in price. With lithium getting more demand and a limited supply in the world, I see no way the actual battery is getting cheaper to produce.

Let the Tesla and electric car spin doctors do what every spinning they have to do, but the batteries are not getting cheaper.

$ per kWh is battery. You can’t say that price per kWh is decreasing and battery prices are increasing. It is a contradictory statement. Look at that chart I posted earlier. In the year 2010 it would have cost $1000/kWh. So a 100 kWh EV would have cost $100,000 for just the battery. The same battery is $20,000 dollars today. $100,000 > $20,000, right?

Edmonton to Winnipeg is not a good route for EV yet. For an example I’m driving from Lethbridge to Revelstoke quite a lot. It’s a 600km trip.

Most superchargers are 8 stalls but some of the smaller ones are 4 (red deer, Canmore, golden, Revelstoke). I have not had to wait for a spot to charge yet. Petrocanada is doing a DC fast charging network along the entire transcanada. BC hydro has done quite a few as well.

Wow that is impressive.. Jhurkot. Seems the gas engines are taxed to death and the electric cars are give all kinds of breaks and incentives. Meanwhile they pretend there is an even playing field. They also conveniently over look the carbon foot print on the electric car.

you bet, the spin doctors at work.

When the electric cars take over the world, they wont have any roads to drive on after all the tax's they dont pay.

I like how you said “WHEN electric cars take over the world”. Because it’s only a matter of time.

Realistically a road tax would be incorporated into EV registration. That would make sense.

This is when the gas vehicle makes a come back, gas will be 10 cents a gallon. Everyone will be going back to them. Our country will implode if the government continues down there path of stupidity anyhow.. I don’t remember seeing any electric vehicles in mad max movie...

I feel these electric vehicles will change our economy for the worst, just looking at my lifestyle with electric motors under the hood of my cars and trucks, no sleds or quads.
Therefor that will limit sales of RV’s and the amount of tourism.

If BC wants this for its cars and trucks in 2040 than how many more years before all sleds are banned all together???
I guess enjoy it while we can, the technology has not progressed that much since the first EV was introduced.

This electric thing is only a very small % of total units sold.
It’s all smoke and mirrors and isn’t going to change much in our life time .
Politicians just japping . IMO
Also watch the price of electricity go sky high with tax once and if they get big % switched over ??
Cheap charging isn’t going to stay cheap !!

Totally agree, watch what you wish for. It’s great to be part of a movement especially when you think your doing a good thing. smoke and mirrors is what’s behind the government to drive this home. They could give 2 sh$ts about the environment or saving the planet.(we witness this with shinny pone flights abroad...saving the environment, Right) Once we are all sucked into buying electric cars the price of power will go through the roof. (Again government controlled, kickbacks) Look at your home power bill right now and triple it. Feels good now dosent it....I’m thinking of all the planes, ships and transportation that really burns fuel, couple pi$$ ant cars running to the grocery store will accomplish jack S/T.
we need to get a grip on our government not the environment.

I think I'm against the grain here too,I hate vehicles, they don't really do anything cool for me but just get me around... I never pay more then $10,000-$20,000 for them, guess I'm totally fawked when they force me onto a super used electric truck to haul my fun things.
