At $1.60 per litre there forcing you to go electric. It’s not even summer yet. Just wait for that. Jhurkot, electric is impressive. I do like new technology as well, but can you overhaul a battery? No doubt like anything price will adjust as more units are sold. I just don’t like how the government presents it. How it’s being taught to our offspring.

Right now I highly doubt that, When is the first electric 1 ton pickup truck on the road???

All due respect, Im a truck guy, I do not like driving cars with gas engines in them.

If I can get to Valemount with two sleds on the deck, and make it back home on one charge I may think of it.

Do you go there and back now on one tank of fuel?

Battery is warrantied for 8 years or 200,000km. Car batteries will be recycled into grid storage. The cost of a battery will be substantially less 8 years from today.

75kwh if battery is going 450-500km on one charge. Using the energy equivalent of 9 litres of gasoline. This energy is available from the sun. In what way do you feel the government is misleading?

Talk about hot air Mike.................how do you figure to be 20' under in 20 years?? You are not that old...........and life expectancy in the Okanagan is quite high.

Your right i "might" not be dead but i'll be in my mid 70's and won't give a poop. Maybe i'll go against the grain on skin powder debate with some of ya. LOL
BTW i still hate diesel's, any diesel, they should ban those..

From Edson, yes I do.

Well for hauling 2 sleds around in the winter I’m not going to argue that you should (or even can) go electric. I still have a one ton diesel for my sledding as well.

I personally do a lot of highway driving so I’ve always had a car to keep the miles off my sled rig.

That is a HUGE assumption and to date is very wrong. Batteries are not getting cheaper, the opposite is true as of now.

Uh what facts do you have to show they are getting more expensive?

by going to the store and buying them.

your chart does not prove batteries are getting less expensive, it shows that they are getting more kWh per dollar, which is a storage capacity as far as my limited battery knowledge goes. Frankly more of a spin doctor chart for Tesla than anything else.

Do the real world test. Batteries cost more. They may be getting better, but they still cost more.

More kWh per dollar would indicate they are getting cheaper. If one kWh costs $800 in 2010 and then $200 in 2017 would we not agree that battery prices are decreasing?

Not that I'm following this thread Johnny, but IMHO the cost/kwh is getting cheaper. No indication the battery is getting cheaper. I agree with Stompin Tom; the cost of batteries is going up and going up quite considerably. That is real life fact from buying truck/car/quad/lawn mower batteries. Even the AA, AAA and D Cells are all going up.

Scale is a powerful thing. Buying 2 double A batteries for your remote control is different than buying 7000 Panasonic 18650 cells for a 100 kWh EV.

Technology products go down as scale increases. Remember when a 42”” inch plasma tv used to cost $10000 USD?

Its like this, new cars are more efficient to operate than old cars, far better MPG

Fuel is getting more and more expensive.

so in this comparison the dollars per kWh is getting more efficient, but the battery itself is like gas, it keeps going up in price. With lithium getting more demand and a limited supply in the world, I see no way the actual battery is getting cheaper to produce.

Let the Tesla and electric car spin doctors do what every spinning they have to do, but the batteries are not getting cheaper.
