Could you imagine sending todays youth to war like my Grandparents did in WW2 at the age of 18.

Finding people to do quality work now is getting tough, people just don't care anymore. As long as they do enough to get by that is all they do. Sad state of affairs.

Where the puck did all the workers go????? I know a few retired but not all of them. I put the blame on sock boy. Useless POS.. There's a town project on the go in Sparwood and they had to bring in workers from Mexico because couldn't find many within the country and when they did a few didn't like the hard work. The project didn't meet it's deadline. Both Finning and Teck are desperate for mechanics. Finning pays more per hour than Teck but teck has a better bonus system (if you meet the targets). They barley get people applying.
Drug policy with TeK doesn't help, can't even smoke a joint on days off.

i have to wonder, is it the trainer or the trainee? i wonder if employers have been through a serious revolving door syndrome to the point where they have lost their patience also. the fracmaster days i remember getting a new hire and thinking, oh boy this dude is not going to make it. but with time spent he turned out awesome. i can see though that even getting staff right now is a serious problem. guy i know here in town owns a granite shop and when the covid crap happened he had to shut down. when it was time to reopen he called his two men and they asked if they could ride the cerb wave a little longer. they didn't want to come back. he called them in and they were cut off. they came back and he said bye bye. he bought a machine that did all their work and then some. he is a one man show now. one employee was his son lol.

I don’t get it either, running a business has a whole new set of challenges the last few years, I pray this social hangover doesn’t go on for much longer, our vendors don’t seem to care as much any more and when they have mistakes happen that cost me money there’s little to no remorse.

Many of you commenting are business owners and I can understand the position you are in. I think the economy should go back to more small business and the huge corporate world needs to be scaled back.

I think that corporate world is the problem. The percentage of the population that do their own thing is too small. Nobody will work as hard for someone else as they do for themselves. When I graduated high school 20 years a go if you got hired by big corporation you had the world by the balls. They wanted people to go above and beyond. When I quit working to farm I was so sick of the politics, constantly being told to stay in your lane, blamed for the problems created by management, taken for granted and treated like a number.

Big corporations wanted mindless zombies to do what they were told, and now they have it. And once again it is the workforces fault for not having any initiative or caring enough when that was all but beat out of them.

The gen x'rs are the generation that seen the whole thing unfold. And their kids are entering a work force that they are exiting and aside from the paycheck never fulfilled them. So why should these kids put in any effort?

With the no fail in school can't give a zero if a student doesn't hand in an assignment.
No spanking a kids give them everything.
I could go on and on
We are reaping what we sowed.
And it is just going to get worse.

Recently bosses and unions folded up human rights and invaded privacy with mandatory VAX. And now we wonder where the workers are. ????
30% had integrity and morals and refused the jabs Those are probably the workers worth hiring. Having scruple’s and self worth is a plus in a employee.
Bang on

The government will invent a new cough and cold and scare all the retards again and that should completely finish off all small businesses, they just need to make the scare tactics last double the time the next go round and they will get what they want……. Everyone working for a handful of companies all owned and backed by the same criminals that support the democrats and liberals

labour Is about to become one of the most pressing issues facing agriculture in the next few years, getting to the point where maybe the juice ain’t worth the squeeze anymore! I wish we had a new frontier where those of such a spirt could saddle up and leave the masses behind!

I actually think it's hurt big companies almost more than small ones at this point. I know many small businesses that survived no problem and are doing better than ever but these big corporations seem to have all sorts of issues. I can only assume it's related to vaccine injury or illness. I had an employee that became dumb as a post after he was vaccinated, We literally had to teach him all over again how to do his job.I feel like that's more common.

Finning does? And they are the lowest paid mechanics out of all the big outfits. I work at a Teck mine contracting but the mechanics must get more than $45 an hour at finning?

when I left in 2016 I was making just shy of $44 per hour as a partsman. I would think about now a mechanic is over $50 per hour. The premuims that we got sure helped. 4X4 and now 7x7 pays way more per hour

I think big box stores did that, now amazon is giving them a taste.

It certainly is quite the ch!t show out there. I’ve ran a large company for 20 years and I can tell you whole heartily it’s never been this difficult to operate. It’s hard to get staff, hard to get parts and a lot of subcontractors have packed it in. Most of our vendors and suppliers are having the same issues Causing them to provide lack lustre service . I wish there was a silver bullet solution or a end in sight but honestly it’s likely gonna get worse before it gets better. This has been my experience and observation over the last year and a bit.

I’m glad I’m not the only one seeing these issues.

I worked at the same place since I was 17, and at 24 I was a foreman with my own crew building roads. My wage was stagnant with 0.5% to 0% raise every year. I stayed in that position for 7 years and wasn’t making a dollar more then when I started it. Finishing grader operator, and foreman making $30 an hour. Unionized, so there was literally nothing I could do to get a raise. While 99% of my coworkers did the bare minimum.

They wanted proof of vaccination, or I would have to pay $110 every week to get Covid tested the day before my shift on my day off before my shift started. 4 on 3 off. Which was also 40km away. So I told them it wasn’t going to happen so I was barred from coming to work for 4 months until Saskatchewan government said it wasn’t required. They promptly suspended me without pay. I went back to work for 3 days, got paid for a stat holiday, then quit.

I now farm with my family and run my own business land clearing and excavating by myself, and am kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
