Looking at a new boat. I found what I like but it has a American turbine pump on it. I haven't had much to do with any boat but have heard mixed reviews about these. Anyone have on hand knowledge of these?

I have an AT SD309 and never have any problems, they are a tough pump, maintinance or repairs if needed is extremely easy. So easy that they can be taken appart in the field with a couple of wrenches for complete repair if needed. The only draw back about certain model ATs is they can plug easier. The AT 312 and some of the Hamiltons are more forgiving this way. Mostly because their intake are larger, so a "stomp grate"is highly recommended if it doesnt already have one. Stomp grates is the #1 most important thing to have on any jet unit, if your planning on running skinny water.

The new model is AT213... Anyone seen one? Mine is a AT312, no complaints but no real hours yet either...

You likely have the SD309. Great pump. All the go fast boats use them. It's a pressure pump versu a Hamilton that is a volume pump. Outlaw in Red Deer has all the parts and are great for giving advice. The AT website has a ton of down loadable manuals and diagrams. If you are new to jet boats check out the mean chicken forum. Tons of stuff there. Below are some links.

Welcome To American Turbine

Thanks. The one I'm looking at is a sd203 rock crusher. With a 350.

Its a nice pump, its basicaly a modified version of the sd312. AT came up with it to compete with the Hamilton 212, similar in design axial design (hamilton style)instead of mixflow (berkley style).

New model that is not out yet is a 231 that is a hamilton knock off and for big block or diesel power. The other one is a 213 that is a rock crusher as they call it and is axial flow.
The 203 is suppose to be for small block and higher reving engines is what i was let to believe.

Im sure you know but dont buy unless your 100% satisfied.

If your running shallow water - like around GP go heavy duty with a proven pump design for your needs. Some V8 heavy duty 8 deg boats can run just as shallow as the annoying sportjets. And some V8 boats with the wrong combo can't get on step quik enough due to poor pump engine combo or bad intake design.

#1 - TEST DRIVE before you buy - some boat - pump combo,s dont work like advertised.
outlaw, BrattJett and Firefish are the three best for our rivers.

Ya for sure. I don't want a sportsjet for that exact reason. My dad has one love the boat but load. I like the looks of the custom weld, has a nice dash and seats. Gonna check out fire fish when I get home.

Hey big guy just talk to some of the fellas we know and jump in and see for yourself. Lot of new boaters out there the last few years that don't have alot of hours under there belt .
Same as sleds, what they own in the best and alot of bull **** that you yourself need to weed through. lol
Its a big dollar item and ride in a few and talk to a few builders before you purchase and not a sales man. I see some fellas spending upwards of $100000.00 for there first shallow water boat that they beat over rocks with a 540 hp engine and expect it to still go fast.
Get your info from fellas that have a three or four hundred hrs of driving on shallow rivers and different rivers with small boats and big boats and see what they have to say.
No boat does everything right so pick what you think your needs will be.
IMO, If you want something to beat over rocks and run shallow water buy something used and cheap and light that is allready beat up and make sure running gear is good and letter rip because there is a steep learning curve that can be very costly.
Weight in boats has the same affect as it does on your sled.

Heres a question... I have a325hp-350/ AT312... I feel the impeller inside the inspection hole and its a bit banged up from gravel(aluminum). I can get about 38.5mph at 4000rpm out of it at the lake( heavy-its got the frame top, wake tower, kicker, seats, wife n 3 young kids).

My question is when I replace my aluminum impeller with a steel or stainless steel($) impeller how much performance gain will I expect to achieve? Thanks from a rookie.

Which impeller is it? How bad is the rock damage? Sometimes they can be filed down.

8 3/4 inch bowl bolts, and a 9-16 wrench will pop the bowl off. On my boat, impeller wear happens more on the shoulder (the part that rides on the wear ring). That can really effect performance. Pictures would help a ton!

I run a '98 eagle 19' Alberta Special with a 4.3 (getting swapped asap for a 383), Berkeley, and run faster than that on the river with a custom B- impeller.

For the OP, GREAT choice in a boat! If you ever make it to PR, shoot me a pm. I'll be at all the races wrenching for the white and blue "Easily Influenced" CX boat.

I think you'll gain more longevity than anything going to stainless. I run aluminum because I'm cheap Haha.
