Heres a question... I have a325hp-350/ AT312... I feel the impeller inside the inspection hole and its a bit banged up from gravel(aluminum). I can get about 38.5mph at 4000rpm out of it at the lake( heavy-its got the frame top, wake tower, kicker, seats, wife n 3 young kids).
My question is when I replace my aluminum impeller with a steel or stainless steel($) impeller how much performance gain will I expect to achieve? Thanks from a rookie.
The impeller can easily be cleaned up, i do mine every year usualy at the beginning of the year and inspect the wear ring at the same time. Very easy to do, only take 2-3hrs to do it all. Clean, shim if needed and bearing replacement if needed. Gives you peace of mind.
The stainless are great, they don't get banged up as easily but as long as you run in clean water and not skinny with debri. They can heavily damange the drive on the boat if you were to suck up something solid and yes you can in fast water.
Performance gain are minimal, mostly because the stainless maintians its leading edge much much longer while the aluminum needs attention(cleaning up).
If you run lakes and deep rivers, stainless if great. If you occassionaly run shallow and spring runoff water, aluminum is much safer.
