that's what I'm talking about, sidehilling when you have to....not when you choose to.

had to sidehill my 08 out of snowman pass up in the silvermines all the way to the truck.... ripped the a-arm off.

Not braggin just saying:rolleyes:
:Happy4: well, I guess that qualifies. I had to do that once on a '79 citation....cleaned the ski leg right off at the bellypan. had to "sidehill" it 10 miles home, 2 up with buddy carrying the ski. good times

That description sure sounds like a PRO. I haven't ridden the new XM, but the BRP sponsored videos all talk about a sled thats easier to pull over and sidehill, what sled are they trying to compete with?

I had to do it one time on a 1953 ski-rule with both skis ripped off, doubling three buddies, 40 below, wind howling, 5 feet of icing sugar powder, uphill all the way out........................

Top that! ;)

......ok, I made some of that up

If all sleds have a track and handlebars, are they trying to compete against each other?

Yes a sled that is easier to pull over and sidehill, I don't see what is wrong with that. Riders who jumped ship to Polaris claimed they XP was too hard to do both of those on. Great, they went to something that they can ride better. Great, atleast there was something else to go try. Is it wrong for a manufacturer to adjust their product to meet the demands of the consumer? It shows that what was once the focus of mountain riders is changing. Not everyone needs to himark the next guy. Is it still fun, sure, but different riding styles have evolved and the sleds are changing with that.

Personally I am happy their are a few brands that compete, evolve and produce products for a wider range of riders. If Yamaha was the only sled manufacturer where would we be?

mountainhunter summed it up for the most part.

The t-motion gives an unstable feeling on whooped out trails at first. But if you ride it aggresive like a dirt bike you realize you can just hammer it down the trail.

The 36" stance is really narrow to begin with, then add in t-motion its like a loose canon out there. Its give and take. Can you live with a mountain sled that does okay on the trail? Or would you rather have a trail sled that you have to put a little more effort into when off trail?

Funny how so many people say they are sidehilling experts, and I just don't mean those few who mentioned it on here, I rarely see people sidehilling effectively when I am out riding. I only know a small handfull of people who can sidehill really well on set up snow, I only know 2 or 3 who leave me shaking my head in awe after watching them take the most impossible line, if it was even a line at all through a steep technical section that requires all the commitment in the world.

To me there is two kinds of sidehilling, there is the large open slope on a deep powder day, sure it looks cool, but most guys should be able to handle it. Then there is the stuff that is movie worthy. Pointing through the thickest of trees area, crossing downed trees, up over dips and drops, sled on its edge the entire time, all the rider effort in the world to just make it to the next spot to charge at it again. Thats sidehilling.

Dan, we should have had the camera rolling when you and Colby went side-hilling down that 5hit-Hole at the Norns! Sounds like you are discribing the fun you guys had down there?

I kind of messed up my last post, but I agree with what your saying here. I think I had a legitimate question about weather the fans of the XP were going to like this sled. We have riders from different brands that like the way their sled works. XP riders like the planted stable feel, the Cat and Polaris riders like the easy tipping point of theirs, the evolution of all this technology makes for better sleds for all of us.

Here we go with the "it feels lighter" during snow check season. Worked for cat last year didn't it? That being said I'd still like to try one out.

Downhill tree riding on GT Snoracers! The Yamaha would be the tank pulling 10 dudes up the hill at a time.

Hayward are you supposed to be riding or atleast doing something productive? :) go back to your Pro thread ship jumper haha

It deffinetly is the kind of riding I am describing. Watching Colby ride is deffinetly inspiring, the confidence he rides with is great. I know him and Johnny are like that all the time.

The fact that he said its the best he has ever ridden, and riding my sled saying that made it all worth while! haha
