Check with Steve at Bowridge Sports. I think they had some when we did inventory. I don't think they make them anymore.

FYI, they still make this belt and is still available. Cost is the same as the 391 belt. 288 is a Kevlar cord version and slightly softer. to do a online order look up a 2005 440 Racer sled and you will see it for purchase.

I've been out of the Doo loop for couple yrs but something about the compound of that 288 on my rev the belt would almost outlast the motor. Brother runs On his freeride 12-1500 miles of bag driving doing wheelies and ringers here on the flatland- high belt/clutch temps

That sounds very appealing. If the 288 is that great why don't more people run this wonder belt?

It's not for everyone, different set ups and lots of people don't or didn't know about it

Joe from ibackshift.com has the failure temps of belts, 391 good to 185° before chords come out. 288 to 195°.

It is used on there race circuit sleds, the belt is slightly narrow compared to a 391 and is a softer compound. As a result of the softer compound, if the clutch setup is not just right you can burn it out faster. positive side though is if you get it right, it is a sticker belt which will be less slippage and more power to the ground. Less slippage is also less heat on the clutches and belt. Generally going from a 377/391 to a 288 you will have to clicker up 1 if you change nothing.

when the '08 XP came out and the 377 belts were shredding like kleenex, a clutch guy told me to go to the 288 off the RS 600 race sled. never ran a 377 again and haven't blown a belt since switching

Great thread! This is the type of stuff I love forums for. What kind of changes to clutching work best when switching to this belt?

I made a mistake....it was the old 166 that was shredding early on, 377 was the updated wider belt that came out much later. all he told me to do deaner was load up the pins with more weight with the wider 288 because the arms were father away from center at engagement. I think I ended up at 17g (stock was like 12.9g), also went with a purple/blue primary spring. that put me in the range that I could be at clicker 2-3 around home and 4-5 at elevation. stock motor

So just to update... For those that want to try a softer belt the 425 sounds like a better suited belt. Part number 417300425. It is not listed in anything skidoo has as it was intended for the 600rs snow cross racing. The 288 was the original belt for this and then now the 425 is out. Same compounds except it is a glued cord construction, Kevlar cords, and it slightly wider than the stock 391. This would be ideal as the 391 is a little too narrow to achieve full shift out. The 425 belt is a custom order and they are limited in numbers, same price as a 288 or 391.

So will the 425 work on xp and xm then??

Yes. It is the same length, approx 2mm wider than the stock 391.

the 288 was a race belt primarily used on the 440 race sleds. Guys used these on mtn 800's with success

425 is a race belt primarily used on the 600 race sleds and some European models. At elevation an 800 is probably making what a 600 is on the circuit power wise, I would think it would hold up better than the 288.

As terroy basically stated, try and up the belt grip/squeeze. 441/439/djmtn ramps at clicker 1or2 at elevation. Shim or up the secondary spring pressure OR run a shallower helix to delay up shift.
