Do you notice that the sled runs rich now that you have that extra restriction?

Would be interesting to have a AFR guage and show the before and after.

No restrictions. Sled runs same as before. Never noticed no difference with the way it responds. I put that screen against my mouth and could breath thru it easily. Haha not sure if that’s a good restriction test. But either way don’t want moisture going into my motor.

i have checked my airbox for water after the screen install and there was no moisture. Before there was always moisture in the airbox

120 km on my alpha and i went to take the hood off to put the defender kit in and water poured out from the nose cone. also had water in the air box. Thats pretty sad, im gunna go out on a limb here and say that took some life out of the motor. The more i go through this machine the moor i feel like its cheaply put together compared to my doo's just an opinion.

120 km on my alpha and i went to take the hood off to put the defender kit in and water poured out from the nose cone. also had water in the air box. Thats pretty sad, im gunna go out on a limb here and say that took some life out of the motor. The more i go through this machine the moor i feel like its cheaply put together compared to my doo's just an opinion.

The sled itself is good. It’s just the intake setup is pure crap. They could cut weight on that hood and have one solid molded intake. U would think they would make sure their engines don’t suck a drop of moisture.

Where isn't his moisture getting in?

Up high by the intake screens?

can tell for sure where its coming from but the whole air box assembly as a whole is just junk.. there are to half's that joint together to make the whole air box and the seem around it doesnt fit tight, there are so places there are gaps. the intake nose cone again is two half's and i dont really trust the joining surfaces of it either. the intakes up top look to be sealed up so its hard to say if its coming from there or not. But i can assure you that 120 km's on my brand new machine and there was water in my intake when i took it all apart. I installed this mtn fit defender on it and im hoping it doesnt let water or snow past into the air box itself, but im not 100% confident in that system either. Fingers crossed. The defender intake doesn't rectify the issue tho, it just prevents the water/snow that does get through the intake. idealy it would be nice to have a sealed unit that we dont have to worry about. fingers crossed i guess

Sorry to dredge up old material but I have some observations on hood fitment from my experience.

It's not a go / no go situation.

"Kinda sorta maybe" works just fine and I feel that is where some issues come from.

I threw the hood on quick once and quick pins fastened, the T30 sure felt like it was tightening. Good deal. The hood was on and secure.....but not correct.

So my routine.

Another set of hands help to make sure the side panels up top do not get hung up.

I lay on my side down by front bumper so I can see where the hood and intake meet.

I tip the hood forward so the bottom of the intake horn goes in first, then just roll it in and lastly a good shove back to make sure it's fully seated.

There should be no gaps at the bottom and that T30 locks up tight. Those are my 2 indicators that the hood is on correctly.

Those quick connect pins will go in with an incorrectly installed hood. The T30 will kinda sorta seem that it is tightening but will not lock up and you will have gaps.

Laying down and watching the hood and intake meet gave me a good idea of how things are supposed to be when it is on correctly.

IMO...It is way easier to put the hood on incorrectly and think you're gtg than it is putting it on correctly.

Kind of a crappy deal but once you know and are aware......that's half the battle.

I got mine back from the dealer once installed incorrectly. Top tab was bent back and the torx was torqued fully bottomed.

So it's easy to mess it up.

It absolutely is and that is why I made the post.

Tolerable inconvenience once you understand it.

BUT....the crappy part is that it can have really bad consequences if on incorrect.
