Allen is getting pretty nasty. The old trail is icing up a bit in the steeper corners but generally has good cover from 3km up.
Clemina is still quite good with staging anywhere between 3-4km. A few trailers made it to the 4km turn around today although there is not much room for turning around up there so go early or leave the big trailers at home...
Chappell is bare for the first 1.5km although there have been reports of great snow up there.
Well..... rain to mtn top last night has unfortunately effected the wicked snow we had all this past week. The good news is that the temperatures are warm enough that the snow remained soft and slushy which made it still fun to rip in today.
There are many loose snow slides to sz1.5 within the riding areas and larger ones seen in the adjacent ranges.
Please check out Avalanche Canada before your head out.
Ride safe
Top was slushy if it gets no snow and cools down it will be concrete. Pouring rain in town if it's raining on chappells trail it will not stand up at least 2 km of gravel and a lot more patches on the way up .
The Chappell trail isn't as bad as some people are making it out to be. I'm happy a guy can still get up there with a sled considering the winter BC has had.
Snow was heavy and fun ,visibility was good which was a bonus compared to Thursday. Found some deep snow to get the little 154 biotch stuck. One guy tried to get fancy on a snow drift and ended up doing a track inspection.
All and all. Fantastic week in Vale and thanks to Alpine Country rentals for having some parts in stock for us
good day on saturday. Snow was HEAVY. didnt ride sunday got too piled up. clemina access is in really good shape now. should be parking at the bridge by next weekend. few bare patches but thats spring for ya.
Rode Allan Saturday, trail has tons of bare spots. Came down the old trail more snow on it but some icy switch backs that could get interesting.
Snow was good as we went back and the sun was out. We poked at this hills for a few hours, one guy cut across a steeper side of it and as another guy went up and down it slide where the first guy sidehilled it. This was back a bit past Avalanche alley. 5-6 guys must have went over this area before it broke loose. Not a huge slide, but enough to bury a guy.
Precipitation is continuing to fall as snow in the high alpine and riding is quite good although access is looking more like late April than March.....
UPDATE Dave Henry is now open for snowmobiling. Access is said to be very muddy and quite difficult. Larger units are not recommended. The road has been plowed to the 4.25km marker throughout the season for logging and this has resulted in a very wet road surface.
Clemina: Trucks with decks and smaller trailers are now staging at 4km marker. There are bare patches between 6-10.5km although the trail is quite good.
Allen Creek: Access to this area is becoming very snow free to the 4km point on the old trail. Access is not recommended. Please remember any other access to this area is through caribou closure and deemed illegal.
Chappell: This area has many bare km of trail and is not recommended.
