Has anyone had trouble with the 09 shift 800 blowing up. Just a Question I thought I would ask. Was there any symptoms before your dragons went boom.

Travis

They are having big problems with there 800's. I know of at least 20 guys with blown motors. Good Luck.

I worked for a polaris shop till yesterday! sick of all the crap that goes on in there. no one really knows whats going on. heard lean spot on midrange. gas problems. we have had our share of 800 blowing up. from 63 miles to 400 miles on them. dont listen to your dealers. they can talk the talk. but for the record for those guys that have extended warranty (GE) good luck with that soon. heard that they are going bank rupt and are denying allot of claims. our shop had faught like crazy to get claims to go through but when it comes down to it when you have a claim with NOS installed and then removed and water loged and piped why should GE go good for it. it is claims like that that screw over the ones that are real! Polaris might not be saying anything because they will push it over to GE warenty next year and I dont think they will be doing warranty. Just my 2 cent.

i dont know if i have posted this here yet but onlypolaris here has the answer, a guy on snowest monitored his oil usage and it was low, like 100:1. Polaris limited the oil for epa emissions and it is not enough for at this motors hot areas, the fuel mapping helps a bit with cooling the motor but more oil will fix the issue. like he says add oil to every tank or adjust your oil pump to input more oil

that makes sence to give it more oil with the oil pump but if you put oil in tank you are actually makeing the fuel leanner because less fuel is getting in well being metered by the injector (say 100 to 1 would be 1% less fuel). yes it is late and Im over thinking. if the mapping has a lean spot in the middrange would this make it an even more lean. if you could add some fuel pressure it would fatten up the lean spot??? now that is my 4 cents lol

Here I go.........the CFI 4's have four injectors. A low and a high. When the injectors are switching there is a timing issue. The point where the injectors switch is around 6000-6500 rpm. They claim you should not run in this rpm range and this is where I'm hearing most of you guys burn down. After the reflash I haven't had any problem.....crossing my fingers. Your right about Polaris.....they haven't got a clue and as far as getting a straight answer......it'll be a cold day a hell. Just my thoughts.

There's oil in the first tank of gas for break in so I don't think it leans it out. Guy I work with has a 09 Dragon and it was using too much oil 2 1/2 liters per tank, had the oiler turned down,ok so far,but his wifes 700 Dragon went down on Sat.

I have been adding a cup of oil and octane boost to every tank of premium fuel. I figure the octane boost may help out with the lean spot? I got the new flash at about 180 km. Over 300 km on it now and so far so good.

they do have a voltage regulator problem and it is also taking out computers. we had a couple that would run on one cylinder but when regulator and computer changed they were great again. I heard GE (extended warenty) has 150 000 plus claims on regulators now and it is far from the end. if a regulator and computer and labour is 400 plus they should be going tits up now lol. so if your gauges start doing weird things or engine starts to run on one cylinder or you loose total spark 90% chance it will be regulator and computer. we changed a few everyday few weeks ago. being an electrical problem (voltage) it was doing different things to every computer but when all changed it ran great. the funny one is the new regulator looks like the exact same thing so did they switch suppliers? NOT. we will probably have the same problem but will be fully on GE next time.. push the problem to the next guy kinda atitude lol.

as for the oil in the tank thing yes they come with oil in tank but is seems like they are trying to get the most HP out of it and beeing so lean that could also be putting them over the edge for blowing up. just do the math. add oil and less gas gets in. say it is right on the edge of being to lean and you give it just a little less fuel will it blow up??? might not right away but it is running leaner, Right?

and octain booster will only make a more controlled burn and stop det. cant hurt it. I used xylene (zylene is the way it sounds) it is a paint thinner you can buy in a paint shop. this it what gas companies use to up there octain rating. I used to run 2 gallons of xylene with 6 gallons of 94 chevron (think it ends up being 100 octain) in my Buick Grand National and the knock gauge showed no knock at 22 PSI of boost (sorry getting off topic) but trying to say octain booster works great for getting out knock which saves engines. but dont think we have knock issue that is killing these engines?

Come on guys spend the money and buy a fuel control box the B D box is great.Get an exhaust temp gage or a air fuel gage and fix the problem or have it blow up and be down 1/2 the season. The only place this sled is lean is at 6500 mid load so dont hold it there temps clime to 1270 1300.Flat out pinned across a lake at 2500 feet the exhaust temps are low same with in the hills about 1150.You can fatten up the mid with the box for trail riden and lean out the top for performance gain.Ya i know you should not have to buy all this stuff but i cant wait 2 years for a reflash and the box is easy to use.
the topend gain from dropping 2 numbers is huge and it is still fat.Stop waiting for polaris to retune your sled and just do it. I will help anyone who needs help and can post fuel numbers

Chris

I was a Cycle Works today to pick up my sled (finally got by new exhaust pipe). I was talking with one of the mechanics, and he said they were playing with a new flash for the 800. He said they were having trouble getting the flash to download, but told me to call on Monday. Surprising news. Until today I hadn’t heard anything about a new flash.

That may be why they are having trouble getting it to download. I’ll find out more on Monday.

By the way, I have been very happy with my dealer, Mountain Toys in Cochrane. Best to share good results as well!
