I had both.
On regular days I used the small can. On deep or expected longer days big can on the bottom and the smaller can on top.
Still used to run out by 2PM on some of the deeper days.
See mid March posting last winter in McBride section.
Those days need two tanks.
Small tank on 850 and it is thirsty a WFO......like most sleds.

Good point, Yep venturing back to spirit I definitely can see your point of view. Lol I remember beings totally out of fuel in the blackwater by noon! Definitely sucks on a bluebird day.

Here is how is see this weight off:

Polaris is the lightest with the most Hp (2 stroke)
Ski-doo is second lightest with the same Hp as Polaris or reasonably close
Alpha heaviest of the 2 strokes with less Hp

The Alpha is heavier and under powered compared to the other two, so there is no reason for the Alpha to be even close when it comes to performance on the mountain. The engine is 50 cc smaller and 10 to 15 less hp. The Polaris and Ski-Doo should dominate, what happens when they don't? Every Alpha rider should consider packing a box of tissue, sat phone with a grief counselor on speed dial and use the next month or 2 to come up with reasons of what could have possibly went wrong. EG I must of been on a old track and just got lucky, your line must have been steeper than mine, must be snow conditions ,.....

holy crap Snochuk......50 cc less....lacking the required horsepower compared to the others....heaviest sled (although you carry the most fuel...but who's counting).......you're doomed......you better stick around the cabin and not venture out to far.....if you do go in to deep powder, have a friend with bigger power (850 and such) who can help you get out......lol

Lol.

The 18 cat was holding its own against the 850.

It's almost like that extra horse power is being converted to heat.......

Hey hey now that is just not true.
Two different Cats creamed my 850 (That creams XMs) both on the flats and on hill climbs.
The Cat clearly outperforms the doo as soon as you back away from the key board - extra weight is there only to even out the game.

I have however bought new socks this year in fear of my left foot not being as warm any more.

Oh and just so you know.

On the Cat the muff pot goes in the pipe not the clutch cover.
