Hi all, oldest boy is seven and will soon outgrow the 120. What makes/models/yrs have you found that work for younger kids. I've got older 600 and 700 but I think that is still a bit too much machine

I'm in the same boat this year. The Mini Z is a bit slow for my 9 year old, but the next step up is too big. I think I'm just going to spend the $600 on a Big Boy power kit from Recreational Motorsports...get her by for one more year. If your little guy has a larger build to him, he should be okay with a Bravo or an older Enticer 250.

My kids went to a 250 Elan at that age and it worked good for a couple years. Then up to a 340 after that and then on to bigger sleds.

I started off at 6 years old on an 86 enticer, then went to a 87 phazer when I was 9. I handled them both just fine, and you cant beat the reliability of those old yammy's :) good luck!

Bravo's and tundra's are perfect... Or go up to a newer cat 370 if you feel he's got some throttle control, we had my brother on one at 10

Jaymie started out in the backpack at 6 months until she was about 3 she went to the child riding belt. When she was 5 she started riding the 340 Indy lite with a throttle block when she was 7 we took off the throttle block. Last winter we did a big modification to the sled changed the seat, track, rear bumper and switched the brake mechanism and are working on the boards. The sled will be passed down to Trennis this year. Jaymie is 9 now and spent some time last year on the 600 powder special. This year she will ride the Powder Special full time we will probably change out the boards on that we won't do the seat because the gas tank is attached to the seat on those sleds. Jan

I have two 250 tundras and will be keeping them for my 4 year old, I would have no issues with her on one, not to crazy of power but very capable of keeping up with the group when needed. The narrow stance can be a pain in trenches from the big sleds but all small sleds will have this issue. Then and or a 550 XP platform tundra would be the next step up, then throw an 800 in it and good till their in the teens.

I have the same issue as my 8 yr old daughter is too tall for her 120. I have been looking at the phantom kids snowmobiles pretty seriously And they look decent. Anyone have any experience?

If u could find a 300 Freestyle they are a great sled to step up to. My son moved from a 120 to a 2006 300 Freestyle when he was 6 with no issues at all. They also come with e. start and RER just like the big sleds. Not crazy power but plenty to keep up on trails. Nice and light and they are better in deep snow then u would think they would be. Hope this helps and good luck with your search.

I don't want to get bashed for being a bad parent but my boys (11 and 9 now) started riding the 800 etech at age 7 and my oldest did a year on an 09 powertek 800 before etechs came out. the throttle was a little tough on his thumb with the carbs. I started the boys on dirtbikes at 3 and racing motox at 4 so they have quite a bit of exposure to riding so it was no problem. they are both now quite comfortable riding in the mountains with me. they are no experts but I am proud of them. the nice thing was when they are learning and can't make over to the next range at least you have a sled that is capable for me to ride up for them. did that a couple times. also with a long track 800 they aren't stuck all the time and you have a spare sled for the wife or someone you want to take out riding.

started my 5 yr old son on a 2008 300 freestyle electric start reverse hand/thumb warmer
not real fast and only a single cylinder but easy to put on a bigger track because its a standard 121''

I started my son on a kitty cat at about 2-3 years old, then onto a 440 indy sport and now at 13 he has a new 2013 RMk 600. The 440 was upside down lots and he learn alot from it

My boys first sled was a 95 xlt 600 when he was 8. He started riding dirt bikes at 3. I started doubling him in the mountains at 8. He started riding in the mountains when he was 12 on a 99 670 summit. He handled those sleds without any issues. Ya they were heavy and he was small. At 14 he was riding a 800 rev 151 and last year at 17 he was riding a 09 xp 154. My only regret is I had to snowcheck a 163 XM this year so I at least have a chance at keeping up to him. I guess the fact that he has raced Motocross for the last 4 years likely helps as well.

my boy at 5 years old started on a 99 550 (fan) RMK trail......I did a 136x2 inch track....reverse.....and powder pro skies and it lasted till last week and we just sold it.......he just bought a mint 98 summit 670 and is now 12......he wanted more power since he begged to have my turbo MCX 310 apex (he started riding it when he was 9)......he grew up with an engine between his legs so he knows what the gas does and the brakes do.......so my thought was to always give him more power then he needs since we ride the mountains......I always want him to be able to come out of where we go......even if it means I have to ride it out! but if your riding in a field I guess this does not mean a thing! I swear by the 550 trail RMK because it is so dependable, light, and can still go off trail with the 2 inch track! just my 2 cent!
