You spend 15K on a sled, and God knows how much money on fuel and travel and hotel rooms, etc. to go sledding for a weekend, and you're worried about an extra 5mpg? Ok then. Here's hoping the new Smart car comes with a high payload.

It's not just fuel mileage loaded it's also empty mileage in your daily driver, cheaper purchase price, lower operating/maintenance costs, better ride, etc etc.

I would run one for sure if i could, Then i could sell my monster gas sucker. My 08 f250 uses 300 ltrs on a round trip to and from vale with a deck and two doos on it.. driving 105km/hr too.. In the hundred times ive gone to and from ive never even seen a dot watchin the roads so i would take my chances especially if i was legal..

Ya its gettin to the point nobody wants to ride with me cuz they know they have to anti up $200 for fuel. Trucks got 398000 km on it and i'm done spending on it. So ya that f150 is sounding better every day.
Coming from spruce grove.. Blue river and back is 400 ltrs lol

I know how your buddies feel. We have a buddy that I won't ride with if he drives his 6.0l 3/4 ton gasser because it has the worst fuel economy I have ever seen. The last trip with that truck, I could have driven my own truck and spent less on fuel.
Some people, like myself, are looking for the best of both worlds. I bought an ecoboost for the better fuel economy as my daily driver and I'm hoping it gets better economy than the 5.3l did for towing. I'm not hoping for amazing fuel economy, just a little better and tows my 2 place enclosed better on hills and in head winds.

Lol I feel guilty for driving that thing 400000km with it must have burnt more than the exxon valdes carried.. My old f150 used 180ltrs pulling a trailer and two doos.. Big cost just to keep the road grime off the sleds and not have to unhook the trailer and turn it around on the forest roads.. Damn 5.4 pos engines..
I run a little 1500 silverado 4.8ltr as my dd.. way better than the big pig

Hate keeping this off topic but why not find a used diesel 3/4 or 1 ton truck? I bought my 06 duramax a few years ago, I use 300 liters or less of fuel coming from south east sask to fernie bc and back. Which is around 900 km each way. I drove to Calgary on a single stock sized fuel tank. My truck rides very nice for a HD with no lift. Could get some aftermarket to make it ride better. Now I don't worry about being overweight, fuel economy, or beating the crap out of my truck with towing.

price of new f-150 $40,000 price of a used diesel $20,000? You can do a lot with $20,000 extra.


plus the feel of a sled deck on a half ton... Kind of sketchy in my opinion. suspension can be upgraded with air bags but it will feel pretty top heavy. May take increased braking effort. I'd maybe try it before making your decision.

Ican't really get into specifics with my particular vehicle because the GVW are tags are gone off the doors. But most F2 50s are rated for about 10,000 pounds total weight. I scaled the truck last year and came out at 9600 pounds front and back evenly balanced. So that doesn't leave me much anyways on my Max alotted weight. So what's the difference if your 400 pounds under on the F2 50 or a properly equipped F1 50 same crap different pile

Take a look at how much weight you can put on the rear axle. You will never get to max GVWR because you can't carry enough weight on the rear axle. Now if the deck went over top of the cab to put more weight on the front axle ......

The new F150 has an aluminum box if I understand it correctly. Wouldn't that be trouble with a deck's feet having like 1700 lbs on them? Might have a run a large sheet of plywood in the box to spread the load?

A think a large sheet of balsa wood is all we can afford at this point lol

$20g usually gets you a high mileage diesel. Then you have to think about the cost of repairs and how it was driven.

So 2350 pay load, will be close to being legal for 2 sleds not much else though. 1100 sleds, 400 deck, leaves 850 yet, looks like it would make it.

Unfortunately not - the Rear Axle GAWR on the new F150 will leave you with about 1100lbs max payload. Doesn't natter what the GVWR is, the rear axle capacity is just too low.
