I picked up a very nice accessory for my truck last weekend...I replaced my old tool tub with a used Truck Boss Smart Boxx.

I have attached a couple of pictures showing the Smart Boxx fully extended, in one photo the box only has my survival gear partitioned at the front and the second photo shows it with a 3/4 load of tool boxes. You can see the old tub on top of my truck deck. The difference between the old tub and the new Smart Boxx is nothing short of amazing. The Smart Boxx with its three sets of recessed wheels works like a hot knife through butter. It has a retainer bracket that keeps the box from coming all the way out of the back of the truck and the bracket can be removed in a couple of minutes if you need to take the box all the way out of the truck.

I love it and my wife loves it...we have had near hernias trying to push and pull the old tub with any large amount of weight, with the smart box its a breeze.

Here is an update on the weight of the truck...pretty much all in, with two sleds on the deck. I weighed the truck at the Waste Transfer scale in Sparwood...the operator said the scale had just been re-certified a week before.

I weighed the truck with the new deck and equipment. The new stuff added was an 8' Truck Boss Deck, a carbide protection kit, a 12' ramp, a winch mounted on the deck as well as an 8' equipment tub that slides in and out of the box. With a full tank of Gas and my 190 lb body ballast the weights came out as follows:

Total truck weight = 6,404 lbs…I still have 1,796 lbs to max GVWR.
Front axle weight = 3,329 lbs…I still have up to 721 lbs available for the front.
Rear axle weight = 3,075 lbs…I still have up to 1725 lbs available for the rear.

I then loaded the truck up with two sleds...a 2008 stock M1000 153 kitty cat and a 2009 800 155 Dragon Pull-yur-ass. The only mod to the Dragon is an SLP pipe and can. Both these sleds had about ½ a tank of gas. To try and simulate a maximum fuel load I then added 22 Imperial gallons of water at 220 lbs, which is equal in weight to 30 Imp gallons of gas (137 Liters) and three heavy toolboxes to simulate Beer and Gear. Super Clamps, tie downs and a little bit of miscellaneous survival gear are also included in the weight. With a full tank of Gas and my 190 lb body ballast the weights came out as follows:

Total truck weight = 7,827 lbs…I still have 373 lbs to max GVWR.
Front axle weight = 3,263 lbs…I still have up to 787 lbs available for the front.
Rear axle weight = 4,564 lbs…I still have up to 236 lbs available for the rear.

The added weight of the sleds and gear actually pulled 66 lbs off of the front axle weight compared to the unloaded weight. I purposely placed most of the water and tool ballast at the back end of the box to try and max out on the rear axle weight. The tool ballast and the water ballast could have all been pushed further towards the front of the truck box to change the balance of front-rear weight distribution.

After I add in the missing front passenger at 200 lbs, I should still be legal.

I also used the winch to load the M1000 onto the deck, just to test it out...works great.

:d
Thanks for great post, I sold my HD dodge not long ago and now use a 2015 super crew 5.0 F150 with a 8 foot marathon for my sled and quad. For comparison if anyone is wondering how it stacks up against other trucks

Truck+full tank of fuel+deck and ramp+ me and maybe 200lbs of stuff weighed in at 5995 lbs
GVWR = 7050 lbs,

plenty of room to spare with one sled which is usually the case for me, although last year due to a mechanical problem with a friends 1 ton dually dodge on a trip to Castlegar I ended up hauling both sleds back to Elkford with gear and three of us in the truck, truck handled just fine braking was fine (dont forget about the 6 speed trans) as well as handling.
Just my $.02 Could care less what you haul with just posting for comparison I would say it is more than sufficient for 1 sled, and 2 on the rare occasion
even though it handled and stopped just fine it was over loaded.

Oh and E rated 18" tires if that matters

That boxx deal looks like quite the nifty setup

What kind of tool pouch is that? I used to have a huskey one like that but it was less than half that size. I use a veto pro pac now but I kind of miss the open pouch concept

Check if I'm home first. Got a little travelling to do in the next little while with appointments and BCSF stuff. I am still home quite a bit so a happen chance may work.

Great.

Hope the getting pulled over in a half ton al the time, doesn't cut into you're riding hours.

Report back in 2 seasons. I would like to see if you still have the truck.

Almost 7 years now. Still hammering the local FSR's with two sleds on the deck. Never been stopped by the Feds and the truck works like a champ...except the broken axle.

Joke...LOL.

Well when you dropped into Fernie Rentals the other day so we can put a face to a name I was rather impressed with the set up, and that's saying alot as I am a Tundra owner.

I had one of the hdpp f150s I think was 2014, was a great truck door sticker was 2300lbs payload could be ordered as a lariat. I was looking at 2021 for a daily driver and part work truck, unfortunately you can only get a 301a which is mid xlt, no heated seats even or option to add them but payload sticker on a 3.5, 4x4 crew 6.5 box 2500 lbs, on 7850gvw. Ie basically same as a 2500 diesel.
