So taking the skid apart I found this small crack where the scratcher goes in the rail. Anyone ever try to fix a rail? It’s not all the way through to the hole. Thought maybe a quick buzz with the tig

If you aren't concerned about adding weight I would grind into it a bit to get some filler and decent penetration. Then add a gusset or some across the crack and weld so you have a larger surface area to strengthen it.

Thought maybe tig it and possible these itek braces will help. Just the front ones.

That would do trick I would think. Have you tried to look for a set of used rails?

I have but no luck. From what I can find the viper are not the same as the cats ...viper is taller where the front arm attaches. Seen a few cat rails but no viper

Yeah probably not worth screwing around. Spare for the trailer.

Just from looking on parts diagrams they are either 12,13 or 14 cat rails.


Top is 2013 162 cat/bottom 2015 viper 162

Those are 14-15 Cat rails, should be a direct bolt on.

I guess it would pays to have a look. Noticed some discolouration under the tunnel beside the exhaust. Noticed this crack. Sounds like it’s typical from what I’ve read.

Yes, it is common. The factory header does not take the extra pressure created from boost. I ended up having mine welded up and re enforced only to split again in another spot. Ended purchasing a shorty header and installed it. Be aware of the extra heat created under the hood though.

Took a break from looking for stuff that’s wrong. Lol. Did some polishing. Man this stuff is amazing...bio-Kleen sled brite aluminum polish.

Nice catch!

I remember with the MCX apex’s you could tell by the sound if anything was amiss in the exhaust system- it would start to bark if there was a leak.

Yeah I bought this sled expecting a few repairs....so not to worried about this. Was kinda ****ty on the cracked rail tho, but that’s how it goes.

Hey Mr... If you can find a MBRP header they actually were a good header! Maybe you could find one on ebay!

MBRP is the header I installed on mine.

I bent the factory rails on my SW last year so straightened them and added the Iceage brace kit. Very next ride landed on a rock and broke the rails but the braces kept everything together. Ended up just putting Cat rails on because the white yammi rails had to be ordered from Japan. Whatever brace you go with, having that extra beef is nice. Nice Viper, I’m sure with that MCX kit you’ll have a blast with it.

Do you have the head shim in yours, or running stock compression? I am unfamiliar with the MCXPRESS set up.

It’s stock compression on the 190kit...suppose to be good throttle response.
